That's exactly why they shut the entire website down immediately once they realized how serious it was. You can't be 100% sure that justin.tv support is going to be able to respond to your message within a minute, but of course they will respond to it very quickly which is why astoorion only took access of the account for the time when it was vulnerable. Still doesn't make it right to access another persons account without their permission.

I'm inclined to believe them, I don't see how having account access would actually reveal any passwords. This would be like me stealing your TL cookie, sure I could login as you temporarily but I'd have no way of knowing what your password was. Anything was was visible in the compromised account control panel (email address, ad earnings for partner accounts, etc) was likely accessible to unauthorized users. I don't think JTV displays anything more personal like address or phone number.

Rofl gave me a giggle ^^. Will be nice to find out the cause of all this, whether it was a malicious attack or just a glitch in the system.

He tried to help and even if it was unmanner/illegal, not like anything is going to happen to him, and I don't blame him doing it because he clearly had good intentions. If you had the choice to break the law, over the internet, to help Day9 not get hacked, I'm sure many of us would do it. My example is a hypothetical situation that puts the morality of his action in question. He thinks he's in the right when he's in the wrong. When you think about it the employee stealing the money first so the robbers couldn't in his eyes isn't a crime either because he wasn't intending on keeping the money but he thought he was doing a good deed because he prevented the "real" robbers from taking it. The reality is that he's just as wrong as anyone else trying to access day9's account. Your example is flawed given that need for intent to permanently deprive someone of a possession is necessary for a theft conviction.

That he was accessing day9's account without day9's permission to prevent others from accessing day9's account without day9's permission. You really don't see it? Fair enough R1CH.

If the bug wasn't known by Sean, I don't have a problem with this. edit: dropping the discussion.

Only if no action is taken is full disclosure an appropriate course of action. Your post probably has caused a lot of grief for both JTV and all their staff as well as all the streamers, some of who depend on streaming for their income.
