It doesn't, that's why it was a stupid move.

So in order to do that you without Day9's permission accessed his account? Is that what you did? You had no right to do so and even if you thought it was in light of helping day9, it doesn't justify you accessing his account without his permission.

It went up.. then it went down.

Doesn't suprise me honestly, some people would take a bullet for Day9.

I'm sure it was possible, but by the time that I had stated what I had done to protect his account, the thread was long gone, and no one on JTV in his channel or on IRC had heard about it, so while it was possible it seemed unlikely

Don't flame the guy. He was only trying to help, from what he believed if he gained access to the account it would stop people with malicious intents on doing harm by stealing his information / using the account for mischief. He had good intentions.

Thank you, that does sum up my thought at the time. I figured that it would create a problem in the already corrupted database if someone was logged into the account, making it unable to exploit said glitch

Doesn't matter, he still had no right to access another persons account without their permission. If you get insider information about a potential robbery, if you steal the money first to prevent the real robbers from taking it you're still in the wrong because you had no right to do so. Instead you call the police (or justin.tv support in this case) and tell them of the problem.
You don't access another persons account without their permission.

Lol. Spot on.
"Don't worry Day9, I'll log into your account without permission so that nobody else can..."
"Don't worry Day9, I'll shoot you in the chest so that nobody else can..."
Why can't others log into his account without permission as well as you? Why can't others shoot him in the chest as well as you? No logic.

This isn't like a real world crime. This is internet. Your example is invalid.
He tried to help and even if it was unmanner/illegal, not like anything is going to happen to him, and I don't blame him doing it because he clearly had good intentions. If you had the choice to break the law, over the internet, to help Day9 not get hacked, I'm sure many of us would do it.

Except that in many sites, you cant log in the same account from 2 different places. If he kept his session active for the time necessary, no one else would be able to access the account which would mean day9 would be safe.

Actually it's more like this:
The Boss of Random Store says to Astoorion as he turns up to work the next day.
"Oh no. Our store was broken in to and the robbers got away with all the money in the safe."
And astoorion tells his boss not to worry. "I found out about it, but it's all OK because I stole the money first so they wouldn't be able to."
An hour later the police arrest astoorion who sits in the back of the squad car with a perplexed look on his face.

In my eyes, it's more akin to him pushing Day9 onto the ground, resulting in some minor scrapes and bruises, so that Day9 can dodge a bullet that's headed his way.
Edit: Sure, the ethical principle that one shouldn't infringe on another's property is still violated. But it's hard to ignore that unlike the potential hackers/information thieves, this person had every intention of doing it to help rather than harm.

I really don't think it was the smartest way to take over an account and I even believe there might be legal charges incoming (depends on local law; don't really know US situation).
But at least it seems he didn't have any bad intentions by doing this. I'd suggest to simply contact justin.tv or whoever it might be in the future by email and tell them about the issue. This should be a more appropriate way to help than intruding other accounts.

You act as if he doesn't have any intention of giving the account back.

He was trying to help, you guys mind cutting it out?

If you get insider information about a potential robbery, if you steal the money first to prevent the real robbers from taking it you're still in the wrong because you had no right to do so. Instead you call the police (or justin.tv support in this case) and tell them of the problem. But he didn't steal the money, he just broke in the store first because he thought if he was in there, no-one else could get in. He didn't break in to steal any money, it was to prevent others from stealing. Although he didn't have any right to break in to the store, he thought by doing so, he was helping.
Contacting justin.tv support wasn't going to fix the problem straight away, but he thought that logging into day9's account was a temporary solution to stop anyone from messing with his account

The actual problem here is people logging on the account and changing settings etc. not logging in and doing nothing. The analogy is more like "Don't worry Day9, I'll point a gun at you so that nobody else shoots you..." even tough it's useless because it doesn't matter if someone is logged in.
