I am playing on korea at the moment and to be honest i find the latency around the same if not better than the SEA server. You can purchase the game if you know the right people. I believe there is someone lurking around the TL forums offering his services.

SEA's latency is ridiculous. Ling/Bane Wars are impossible to produce any decent results. Ever.

TPG Fail.

Also sometimes NA sometimes has better ping (250 vs 350) than SEA.

I really hate that I get single digit pings to internode fps servers, but I am forced to play with triple figure pings with RTS.

FPS servers are in Australia, RTS servers are not (SEA is in Singapore), there's nothing you can do about it. That's why Australia has a pretty big FPS scene in comparison to other countries imo.

Remember that ingame latency is higher then the plain ping to the server, in SC2's case is much higher then the ping times. The ping to both Korea and US West Coast from Sydney is about 150ms, but home users get much higher pings due to congested ISP networks or traffic prioritisation. You can "fix" this by getting a good ISP for gaming or tunneling your Starcraft2 using these "ping services" through a non-congested international link.

It's all going to depend on your ISPs routing. For me, SEA used to be about 230 but now it's 70ish (Perth -> Singapore without going to Sydney -> US -> Singapore like it used to). Korea is 200, but NA is 230-250.

How hard is it to get a Korean account now? You need a Korean social security number or something don't you?

I'm with Bigpond, so all my international packets go through hong kong and the US, It sucks. If you are with bigpond I wouldn't suggest playing on KR.

.... If you don't understand what those numbers mean, even with 300+ ms of latency.... packet loss is inevitable. Packet loss is worse then latency, as sometimes your commands won't even reach the KR servers... If you are getting 300+ ms of latency from SEA, don't bother with a KR account. It will be a total waste of money, trust me.

For me connection to SEA is the worst, Connection to KR is the best, then to NA is 2nd Best.

Try it for your self, but theres no point in getting a korean account if you aren't top 200 NA from my experience. The other league players are just as bad, they're not all huge awesome SC players

I couldn't find the IP/domain name for the SEA server, but I tracert'd the Korean and US servers from here where I am in Perth, and the Korean numbers were all lower in every respect, and US is already pretty okay-ish playable for me (its what I'm playing on at the moment.

My main reason for the Korean account isn't to be like "woo, play with Koreans!" but simply to try to get a better latency experience without having to play on the dead SEA server.

160ms~ to sg.logon.battle.net (you see "SG" flash up when you change server from US to SEA and vice versa)
195ms~ to us.logon.battle.net
400ms~ to kr.logon.battle.net

I'm with TPG, living in Sydney.

My korean ping is really odd, it goes via 66.162.129.149 (us.twtelecom so a server in US) then to a Japanese server that's supposedly located in Australia from iplocation then to Korea. So if you're on TPG I guess it doesn't go via Perth

Also I experience a much more noticeable delay playing on US compared to SEA so who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hey guys, when I attempt to trace the route to any logon.battle.net, every attempt made times out... anyone know why? I'm in SEA myself, but I get better ping on the NA servers, and I would be interested in what my ping would be like on Korean servers, but I can't ping or trace the route to kr.logon.battle.net ...

thats normal, just take the last traceroute numbers that you had available.

But there aren't any, all of the attempts to trace the route time out... I've tested every server, and I get the same result.

Are you with Bigpond?
Do you have Cable?

They block tracert, you need to do a 3rd party program to ping the servers.

I'm with Vodafone in New Zealand. Hmm, I guess they could be blocking it, sucks. What's the 3rd party program you're talking of?

Given I get better ping (only from experience I've noticed this) in NA servers compared to SEA servers, is that a good indication that my ping to Korea will be good/bad?

Ugh, I didn't know the ping for Australian/NZ players is THIS bad. This is terrible :/

I thought on SEA servers Australians could get at least below 100?
