So just wondering if laddering is something that gets your blood pumping, maybe makes you a shake a bit, gets the sweat going, I don't know, pretty much anything stress related. I think most people would agree that SC2 can be a very stressful and frustrating game when you ladder and lose, and I know that a lot of players (myself definitely included) get nervous when they go ahead and hit the ladder. So, does it make you nervous? If it does, feel free to post down below WHY it makes you nervous, and if you have found a way to get around it.
To those of you who don't get nervous from playing SC2, I would hate to not give you a way to participate, please post down below why laddering doesn't ruffle your feathers. Possible things to mention would be why you don't mind losing (assuming you don't), your outlook on points, and how much you play per day.
As for me personally, I get pretty nervous at the thought of laddering. I had a paralyzing fear of failure unfortunately, which effects me in pretty much all facets of my life. In games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, Team Fortress and such, that doesn't really effect me, since there is really no penalty for dying. However, in games like SC2, losing has a pretty big impact, and can really have negative consequences. I try to get past it by watching a lot of pro replays, practicing with friends, and playing at least 1-2 games a day to keep myself in the mindset. Still, its kind of a work in progress, since I don't think I have played any games in about a week. Really gotta get back on the horse!
So sound off with a reply about how you voted and why you voted that way!

it can be...i have a friend who actually needs to take a smoke break every like 3 matches because hes so stressed lol
|
I love laddering .. went on a 9 game winning streak and was feeling invincible the other day.. now im having mixed results again lol but im sure i will be back to raping hardcore soon ;0)

At least for me, "laddering" is equivalent to "play a game of starcraft against someone about as good as you." I don't really have the "holy shit high stakes" feeling; it's the tournament games that make me nervous as fuck.

There's no option that applies to me...usually I feel great after winning a game and feel horrible after losing. More losing = more rage = worse play. But I'm never nervous, unless I face a pro on ladder that I respect or if I verse someone that I was bming or he was bming me. Cause if i verse someone that previously bmed me I try my hardest to win. But overall im never nervous

The only reason I get weary about laddering is if I know I cant give it 100% attention because if I lose and I could have won I WILL be pissed.
Other than that I love laddering for hours and hours not really caring about win/lose or anything. Most people just hate the feeling of having their "blocks knocked over".

sorry man, I really do try to get an answer in there for everyone, but I think the "After losing it can be tough to go back answer" might be the best for you, though I know it isn't 100% accurate.

Winning actually makes me more nervous to keep playing than losing because I know that I'm gonna get tougher opponents. Also, losing makes me want to play more to take my anger out on my next opponents.

Ladder is FUN! Unfortuantly I don't like to lose. So I play more custom games to improve rather then ladder games to gain expirence. And when you are expecting to lose you are more likly to not care if you win/lose. Like when I switched to toss I droped to diamond from masters zerg. 40 loses and 3 wins in all of my games after I switched. Im used to losing now.
|
I find it hard to hit "find match" but once I get through my first match it's easy going from there; I could play for hours.
|
Honestly, if laddering makes you nervous you're too much of a pussy to play it in the first place.
|
Voted for "I play mostly custom games, laddering doesn't appeal to me much", reason is: "Yes, I can barely hit that button without breaking into a sweat!", every time I try to play ladder I am playing 10 times worse then I should while playing Customs I am relaxed and do my best.
I am unranked in S2 because of that, but I win fairly often against Diamond/Master players at Custom games (even if I know they usually off-race or try some unconventional tactics which gives me usually edge with my standard play).
It's not only StarCraft, all games I play I really get nervous playing if it is for ladder, points, competition etc.

As a Bronze League player really trying to improve laddering is intimidating because I know I need wins strung together to get my MMR up and every loss seems like an incredible blow to the MMR so I get nervous just thinking about if all my progress will be lost in one game (Even though it probably won't).
|
It can get frustrating when you feel like you're doing so well, but you lose to Dark Templars or a baneling bust. For me, after a long losing streak I start to rage and then i stop playing for a week or so.
|
Sometimes I feel nervous, and sometimes I dont.
|
It's a tough competition. If you somehow manage to ladder intensively without getting emotionally involved somehow, I dunno what kind of super human you are.

Looking at current votes it seems we have a lot of "pussies" here at TLnet (including me) :D...

can't unsee it tt
whiterabbit
OT: Not nervous, just afraid o.o

Only when I'm on a huge winning streak and my mmr is way above my level. Laddering seems really stressful to a lot of my lower league friends, some will only play customs.
