It's definitely some kind of a bug. Don't know when it came around but I've done some testing ( watching the enemy scout on minimap) and most times it either never gives the warning or it gives it when the worker is at 5 hp.

Oh and I don't care about if I should use it or not. If it's in the game it should work correctly.

but yea i just taught myself to look at the minimap pings, but i think they sometimes bug too.

It's just implemented in a really stupid way.
A lot of messages are queued one after the other. For example: if a "you need additional pylons" is playing, the "we're under attack" sound will play only after the previous one finishes, even though both things could've occured right after each other.
If the queue becomes too long, messages may not even play. I've been nuked without a "nuclear launch detected" warning playing at all.

The way it was in BW is so much better. There's a short recognizable sound right away to draw your attention and that sound is different for each type of warning, so for example you know you're under attack right away by the short pinging sound that plays.
The messages themselves are short and clear(all the under attack warnings in SC2 are "our asses are being kicked") and they play right away, instead of waiting for the previous ones to finish.

I'm getting this constantly too, really annoying as I've been playing as zerg and my scout lings/overlord will die before I get the message, so when I do finally get it I don't even get to see the opponent's army. I mean often you will catch it on the minimap but it's easy to miss when there's a lot going on.

It's irritating that the game kind of queues stuff like this and I have more than once lost a scout or some similar important unit because of no warning. I could just get better, though.

Semi-on topic: The "we are under attack" audio sounds really wimpy. I'll cite zealots:

Brood War: "OUR FORCES HAVE ENGAGED THE ENEMY!"
SC2: "We cannot hold!!!!"

Such a little priss.

There is a sound that I don't get aswell but I forget what it is. I tried turning up some of the channels that can be played at once in a game but i cant turn them up all the way because my computer sucks and it says if effects performance :/

While I have received them, there was one game where it didn't happen for me TWICE (losing me every fucking worker, both times). The second time it said "nuclear launch detected" right as the nuke hit. That hurt.

Yea I've definitely had some minimap ping lag before, but very very infrequently I think.

And that the OP mentions it, I'm pretty sure my audio lags half the time, because now that I think about it, I almost always see the minimap ping before hearing the audio.
