1.) multiple buildings selection: obviously since you are now allowed to throw all buildings on one hotkey you don't have to assign each production building an individual hotkey 2.) hotkey-placement: I can only speak for me as a protoss-player; but as previously mentioned, in BW "probe" was on "p", so placing the nexus/nexi(?) to 8-0 made perfect sense; then I played wc3 for a long time and had "build peon" on "u" so I had my main-building on 6-7....now "probe" is "E" so I assign my main to "3" now...although I have to admit I always have one hell of a time to adjust to different hotkeys

The only problem is when you use a lot of ctrl groups, basically, you have to move your hand to the other side of the keyboard, where there is absolutely no micro/macro shortcuts.

If you set all your Nexus' to 0, you only have to press shift 0 a few times in a game. The instead of trying to extend your finger to hit 0 everytime you build a probe, just move you hand slightly. After you get the muscle memory down of where 0 is, you'll fly right to it This allows production buildings to be at 5-7, 8-9 be for scouting units or whatever and leaves the quick handy 1-4 for armies.

My left hand is in a "typing" position, you mean that some players put their hand in another position? Try Joy2key maybe? Or does your mouse come with a standalone driver for stuff like that? (Like most Razer mice do)

they set 9 and 0 to their mouse buttons ... pros are sponsored by gaming companies that provide them with free gaming mouses (and usually makes them take full use of that to advertise the mouse's ability) So on my razer deathadder I have 2 mouse buttons, I configure the two mouse buttons to 9 and 0. Therefor in game I can use al my 123456 for army/structures, but have my nexus/scout/whatever on my 9/0.

I see pros using them from time to time, but i always scroll with the mouse on the edge of the screen. It's all personal preference really. You don't have to copy what well known players do, just do what's comfortable. Everyone has their own personal hotkey setup because there is no "best" setup or "best" way to scroll around.
