Definetly this. How many years was it before P players figured out how to be even against Z in BW? Everyone and their mother thought the matchup was a bit imbalanced in Z's favor when I joined TL in 2005, and when I came back for Sc2 suddenly no one's complaining anymore, with no balance changes in between.

People have to stop assuming they've figured the whole game out, especially with how young it is; even the best players around (which honestly complain MUCH less than most random people) can't really be counted on to make massive changes, simply because their play isn't developed enough at this stage. Maybe some could argue about marauder/roach/immortal being 'boring' and whatnot, but I just think maybe some new strategies that don't revolve around them still need to pop up.


Actually there were balance changes in professional BW that helped protoss vs zerg - the maps.

Because the map pool is being made by Blizzard, who aren't the most well known for balanced maps, especially seeing SC1's Blizzard map pool against the current metagame.


The same could be said of all the early KeSPA maps as well. The fact is, no matter how good they are, Blizzard could not have known how the game was going to develop 10 years down the line. So it is kind of unreasonable to compare the stock SC maps to modern balance.

Plus, SC2 maps are preety much proof of the fact that the 10 years of mapmaking developments have helped a lot. While the beta mappool is not perfect, all of the maps are preety much leaps and bounds ahead of anything they created for the original SC.

If I knew they were going to change hotkeys, I wish they could have changed the overlord drop hotkey because I keep accidentally upgrading it when my hatcheries have no larvae and I am spamming v for overlord...

you can't even begin to estimate how many people aren't playing from the numbers blizzard gives you at login. So many of those games are four players (or more, thanks to observer slots)--almost any combination of xxxxx users online in yyyy games could result in 100% in games

Fast DTs are a lot better now that fast ghost is less prevalent. When fast ghost was almost standard, I think DTs truly sucked ;o

Anyway, back on topic, i agree that they do have an "army" of playtesters etc but the point is, blizzard may know ALOT more, but they might not know better. Consider the fact that they are: 1. A company bend on making sure the profit margins are nice and good and 2. The main people that call the shots are not necessarily players that play the game inside out. That's what the playtesters are for and us as well actually. But as head honcho they can overrule what their input is and do what they want.

Think the Pointy Haired Boss from Dilbert. To further elaborate, Dilbert is a highly qualified engineer, but yet, his Boss, who is lets face it, stupid, constantly overrules him.

I'm not saying that we should design the game. Or that its our game to create. I suppose I define "better" as having a well-balanced, exciting game, that allows for ingenious gameplay, and well rewarded micro, macro and strategy. If you define "better" as raking in the cash as in WoW type then yes, I agree Blizzard knows best.

I think the patch is ok. I dont think the marauder/immortal changes were really nessisary, other things in the matchup needed to be looked at.. but it'll solve the Terran crybaby's whining for maybe another 2 days hopefully, til they find something else to complain about (I personally just switched to terran last week, and I find it comical we get this change, oh well easier for me I guess)

Neutral parasite was needed range upgrade, that will really help them. Also the fungal growth buff, that will make Infesters almost in everygame now, not sure if I enjoy that cause they are deadly, but lets see how it plays out.

warp prism in his main and warp in some dts there then ^_^ chances are youll take down the 1 turret by his main CC and get some harass done. That way youll force him to scan, which almost makes them worth it just for that
