woop first post. hello everyone
i just beat this level on brutal today after several tries, so i figured it'll work on hard. this is assuming you got hive mind emulator though--i've actually never tried to use the psi disrupter.
if you removed air (so nydus worms pop out): -critical mass of tanks on both sides below the artifact. -build a few extra rax w/ reactors and pump marines marines marines marines marines--kerrigan will destroy your tanks so fast unless she eats the marines first. -with crit mass of tanks though, she won't last very long -at the very start, i even pulled the starting units and salvaged the bunkers and built new ones to create choke points. -~10 banshees is really all you need actually (on hard anyway). i imagine much more will be needed on brutal -if you have hive mind emulator, use it on the ultras
if you destroyed ground: -same thing--pull units back/wall off w/ bunkers and rax w/ reactors -throw down hive mind emulators all over the place. i had about 10 on the left side, 5 on the right, 5 at the bottom of your base and around 5 near the artifact itself. -mind control every muta and broodlord you can. broodlords take priority as they're the key to distracting kerrigan. -you will constantly be repairing/building/defending etc. save often and keep at it. use the artifact's nova (if you're not going for the achievement) if you're overwhelmed. by the last wave, i had 40+ mutas and 20 broodlords. my artifact didn't even lose 100hp although my main CC was razed in the process, but who cares? haha
and now i have beaten the campaign on brutal :D

-Wall off your north and west entrances with Command Centers at the start and morph them to Planetary Fortresses. -Keep 5-6 SCVs at both entrances set on auto-repair. -Line up as many siege tanks as you can produce behind the PFs. -Mass Banshees to take care of Nydus Worms. -Throw in some Battlecruisers to Yamato Kerrigan.

Mass marine-medic to kill Kerrigan. Get upgrades for marines. Mass siege tank on both sides, on low ground behind the cliff for main damage. Get both siege tank upgrades and mercenary siege tanks. A group of banshees to take down nydus networks.
That's about all needed.

What I did was just open up with two more command centers just for the extra mules/scvs really fast. After that I went pure tank, planetary(two on the cliff w/ the artifact, and I ended up having 4 on each side so 10 total), with alot of SCVS.
Buy the tank upgrades that make them do 75% less dmg to your own stuff, and wah-.lah easy win. Did this on brutal on my second try, failed the first time because I just had no clue what my objective was lmao. Is there any way to go back and get more credits? I never got planetary fortress or tank upgrades My main problem is when Kerrigan comes, she absolutely wrecks all the tanks and one side gets totally opened up and invaded.
You have to do as many of the other missions as you can before you leave for Char, the game tells you this before you leave.

If you destroyed the air platform: Tanks Tanks Tanks Upgraded tanks are so good for this mission. The +40 damage is key for smashing down ultralisks, and the splash upgrade keeps friendly fire to a minimum. Place them on the low ground next to the platform for the best results. Then sit back and watch the fireworks.
Use banshees? Nope. Just build more tanks. Use marines or SCVs to distract Kerrigan. Then build more tanks. The PSI disruptor is okay. Set a few up, they can't really hurt. There aren't really any ground units worth mind controlling, as they'll get wrecked by your tanks anyway. Perdition turrets are okay, they can at least work as a melee barrier for your tanks. I tried a few, they didn't really help. If you feel like a basterd (and I'm sure you do), plant a few planetary fortresses on the platform. Cover their back with SCVs(or get damage control upgrade). They cost ZERO pop cap, are amazingly cheap for their power, and a little more splash damage never hurt.

If you destroyed Nydus Worms and have mind control tower.
1. Make HEAPS of Mind Control Towers 2. Mind control ALL Brood Lords and Mutalisks 3. ??? 4. Profit

Preperation: 1. wall-off with bunkers at each choke ( Planetary fortress if you researched that.. which I didn't)
2. Place 2 Psi disruptors behind the bunkers at each choke.
3. Use about 4 scv's at each choke to repair bunkers/disruptors.
3. place siege tanks at each choke until about 160 supply. Siege breakers really help (170 dmg with level 3 dmg ). 2 factories should be enough to produce them, when you researched tech reactor. Otherwise you might build 3 or 4.
4. Use the rest of your supply for a 'Kerrigan-Strike force'. Depending on the composition you might want to make an extra barracks or starport.
5. Build two armories and start upgrading right away.
Dealing with the Zerg
The tanks plus bunkers plus your psi disruptors should be able to do this job easily. The bunkers prevent the zerg from attacking your tanks and disruptors. The Psi disruptors prevent the zerg from even attacking your bunkers most of the time. The scv's are there to repair the bunkers just in case. The Nydus worms that pop up in your base will automatically get slaughtered by your tanks.
At one instance some overlords will come in to base to drop some zerglings. You may want to use your strike force (which I'll explain later) to kill those.. shouldn't be a problem.
Dealing with Kerrigan
For Kerrigan, you will need to make a seperate strike force, which purpose is to distract her from the tanks. The purpose is NOT to deal with Kerrigan all by it self. The tanks still deal the damage, but the strike force need to take the hits, as well as the abilities from Kerrigan.
There are a few options for your strike force. I myself used a lot of banshees, friends of mine used an mmm ball which was placed on the high ground at the artifact. Both work well. Make sure that when you confront kerrigan it is in range of the tanks.
Use your artifact only just before Kerrigan arrives at your base, so that you don't have to deal with other zerg units while dealing with her.
Further it is handy to save your game just before Kerrigan arrives, just in case she decides to aoe your tanks anyway.
If you follow this strategy precisely it should be pretty easy to complete it on brutal.
