MLS has to come up with the production and eat those costs while having $250 a year locked in for 10 years to watch most of the increase get eaten up by inflation by the end. Beats the proposed La Liga one. That’s just as restrictive only it came at a time where many clubs were staring at the precipice. We seem to be approaching a new phase in football, I think we may see some pretty hefty changes incoming. Given how viewer habits have changed, and continue to change I don’t see how conventional cable providers can continue to get value for rights. Can the Prem continue to increase their deals in that domain? We already had the debacle with the French rights. Could an Amazon, or now it seems Apple afford to loss lead to bring people into their ecosystems? Absolutely. I’m unsure what this means for MLS but it seems on a decent trajectory and has a certain financial stability given its structure, which gives it an edge over much of the Americas, through a combination of mismanagement or the lower economic status of countries elsewhere. I doubt the US will ever be quite the hotbed of talent that some of the other countries on the continent(s) are, but it could conceivably develop one of the strongest leagues.

Was really hoping Fábio Vieira would dominate next year's league but oh well, it was not meant to be,

MLS hasn’t completely turned its back on traditional TV – reports claim the league is still in negotiations with linear broadcasters to show some games – but there’s no denying the significance of the decision to work with Apple, the partner Don Garber wanted all along. “When we started out this process we had a logo on the whiteboard, and that logo was the Apple logo,” said the league commissioner. Fans will notice a difference. All matches will be played on Saturdays and Wednesdays. Local broadcasts will be a thing of the past. So too will blackouts – every single match will be available in every state (and every country) on Apple TV. Matches will be broadcast in 1080p (many of the current broadcasts are in 720p and 1080i) and will come with a local radio audio option. On top of this, MLS season-ticket holders will receive access to the service for free. This new deal was years in the making. As long ago as 2019, the league told clubs not to sign local deals beyond 2022 – the intent behind that instruction is now clear. Garber had initially set March 2022 as the date for an announcement on the new contract. As that date came and went without any news, it was suspected that MLS hadn’t received the offers it had hoped. Source

The final regional groups for 2026. (This matters because, to reduce travel, FIFA plans to group countries by region.) EAST: Toronto (BMO Field); Boston (Gillette Stadium, Foxborough); Philadelphia (Lincoln Financial Field); Miami (Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens); and New York/New Jersey (MetLife Stadium.) CENTRAL: Kansas City (Arrowhead Stadum); Dallas (AT&T Stadium); Atlanta (Mercedes Benz Stadium); Houston (NRG Stadium); Monterrey, Mexico (Estadio BBVA); Mexico City (Estadio Azteca). WEST: Vancouver (BC Place); Seattle (Lumen Field); San Francisco (Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara); Los Angeles (SoFi Stadium, Inglewood); and Guadalajara, Mexico (Estadio Akron).

Vancouver Guadalajara are 3700km. For comparison, thats Lisboa-Moscow or Oslo-Baghdad. There may have been many priorities, but "to reduce travel" was certainly never one of them, when this WC was planned. Let's just hope that for the group stages they always find 2 somehow close stadiums for each group and not really follow those "regional groups".

110k for a pre-season game between united and rm held at the university of michigan's american football stadium fwiw america is lucky that both share similar field dimensions because if american football was played on an oval then there'd be a lot more logistical problems
