The state of German talent isn't even bad. It's pretty damn amazing. The problem is that DFB and team leadership is total trash.

Worth noting as well that Leipzig had 0 German players in their starting XI.

Bayern = MU/RM/Juve - enough said. Not sure about the qualify of Gladbach - they seem to have stumbled through the group stages rather fortuitously? Dortmund - the Ajax of the new millennium! Really rooting hard for them.

Well, he was born and raised in Kaiserslautern, played for the German U21 and then ultimately decided to play for Hungary instead (guess to increase his chances of playing?) So he really has something do with the state of German football ![]() On December 11 2020 10:02 RKC wrote: Isn't RB Leipzig the Chelsea of Germany? There are some purist who don't like Hoffenheim/ Leipzig and the way they have risen cause of money but IMO they are good for the Bundesliga in general and they both play some modern style which is nice too watch. Gladbach has mostly a good team but they are more like HeroMarine. Pretty steady and for some reason nervous when playing in the big league. Rarely punch over or under their weight. Bayern: Loved or hated, nothing in between Dortmund: Pretty much everyone who follows Bundesliga likes Dortmund (beside Schalke fans). Refreshing and agressive and fast way of playing. Most think Favre is holding them back though

I wouldn't compare them to Chelsea at all. The main problem people in Germany have with Leipzig is concerning the scummy way they circumvented the 50+1 rule, which is somewhat of a holy grail for us. Apart from that they are a well run club, a representation for eastern Germany in the Bundesliga, make the title race more interesting and also play good football. So lots of positive things. Kinda sad that refs took the group victory away from them in this years CL.

Small thing about Gladbach: They are probably not too known right now but they were extremely dominating in the 70s winning 5 championships and 2 UEFA-Cups so if you search for an english club that is similar, something with tradition would be the best choice ![]()

Quite intrigued for another angle. Myself I like how Dortmund incorporate and develop young talent, and just how they generally seem to be run. If I was to read between the lines it does feel the club is currently perpetually in transition, developing all this great talent but never really arriving at a finished product for a season or two and pushing on. Not dissimilar from an Ajax or the big Portuguese clubs.

Not dissimilar from an Ajax or the big Portuguese clubs. Feels as if we are carried pretty badly by that one great youngster every year (Dembele, Sancho, Haaland). The chances that you see Heavy-Metal (as Klopp said) when choosing to watch Dortmund are close to zero. And while our playstyle had to develop in reality it regressed alot imo. So we're finding success in individual class but team-cohesion is lacking. As a team, Ajax (from the games I saw) were offering far more entertainment with a fluid and fast style. We're similar in trying to develop great talent into established professionals but Dortmund - for now - lost the playstyle that could hype spectators. Or atleast that is what I'm feeling when watching my team.

Or atleast that is what I'm feeling when watching my team. I have a soft spot for teams who blood youngsters into superstars, embrace cultural diversity, and play 'total' football. I've been following Ajax since the 90s (e.g. Litmanen, Blind, Seerdorf, Bergkamp, Davids, Kluivert, Finidi, Kanu). I'm seeing shades of such philosophy in Dortmund in the last decade or so. Maybe it went on longer than that? Sorry, I didn't have that much exposure to Bundesliga in the 90s. All I remembered was Dortmund's historic CL win. The rise and fall of Lars Ricken kinda made me doubted their sustainability and youth system. Then they went into a slump in the 2000s, so they slipped out of my radar. I would really love to learn more about Dortmund's history - and be corrected on any misconceptions I may have!

Another disgraceful performance by Dortmund. This is not the Dortmund I fell in love under Klopp
