And stadiums will be better. And the fans will be better. And most probably the covid situation will be handled better (if this is still a thing then ofc ^^)
€: lol there is a petition that the final will be held again because Chiellinis foul against Saka should have been a red card and wasnt (totally not but ok). The audacity is amazing after what happend against Denmark! :D

While not exclusively English, not many fans invade their own stadium, apparently injuring Harry Maguire’s day father, boo national anthems, etc etc
I’d hazard a guess there’s a bullshit petition everywhere after a bad result though

If there was a red that was not given, it was for the Jorginho studs first tackle in extra time. And even that one was somewhere on the orange spectrum, by no means was refa decision to give a yellow card wrong.
The Chiellini shirt grab was obvious, blatant (and arguably hilarious) foul, but there were zero arguments for that to be a red.
In general the reffing for the final was excellent, I think Kuipers kept a possible very tense and heated game nicely under control. The Finnish commentators highlighted how he kept this very friendly, smiley face through the match, didn't get frustrated or flustered by the antics of the players.

I would gladly sign a petition for Sterling to get a yellow for diving every game so he wouldn't even have been allowed to play in the finals
Chiellinis grab was a picture book yellow. I vaguely remember a scene in that game where a English midfielder tried to stop a play multiple times but was too slow to get himself booked ^^

I'm not sure about the origins and thought progress of the particular petition, but every bigger tournament there's a section of viewers who tune in only every couple of years max and are unfamiliar with competition and its morals and ethics in general. For them a cynical foul like the Chiellini yellow may seem totally outrageous whereas they're pretty oblivious to all the low key nastiness that goes in your average physical and mental battle during a corner for example.

Chiellini and red? For what? That was a fair yellow card. A comically looking tackle which was just yellow and there's no reason to be red. That Jorginho one(IIRC) ... that's a whole another story, that could have been red if the ref decided so. OTOH the ref probably decided, that Jorginho wanted to play the ball and it wasn't intended which was confirmed by the diver enthusiasts at the VAR room

Unless one is myopic to a point of genuine delusion, the game was reffed well, such petitions are embarrassing.
Even the infamous Henry handball, which was a really bad miss by the ref, some of the demands for a rematch were ridiculous. It fucking sucked but you can’t just replay games if a bad decision occurred.
100% agreed that perhaps those who don’t get how the rules intersect with the application of the rules may get more animated than regular football matches.

Ya seconding oukka too. Chiellini's foul is the yellowest card I've ever seen - it's never more than that, and it's never less than that.
Jorginho's could've been red, though, but it's okay that it wasn't. And the refereeing was generally wonderful, both in the final and the rest of the tourney.

The only logical solution. Good to hear

Still not enough as they need to either sell off a lot of players, or get them to cut their wages by the same percentage.

Well, let's look at the Chiellini's faul from the brighter side of the life. It gives us jokes from the internets. Hope the pictures in the spoiler works.

Edit> IMO the Sergio Ramos failed penalty produced better stuff, but still good.

i think pulling a guy like that is very dangerous, and it was with intent as well. i think any dangerous foul with intent should be a red regardless if the player just gets back up with no harm done.

Thats nonsense, shirt pulling is totally normal and always a yellow card.

that wasnt a normal shirt pulling, that was a horse collar pull, which is more dangerous than if you pull a guy from the side or even just hanging on to his shirt at the middle or lower part of his jersey (as the player is falling/bending backwards). he also held it the whole way instead of letting go.
the NFL has banned it, of course its a different sport, but the action of it is the same, the defensive player pulls on the back collar of an offensive player who is trying to go forward.
Here is the risk:
The horse-collar is particularly dangerous due to the awkward position of the player being tackled, who will often fall backward in a twisting motion with one or both legs trapped under the weight of his body. This is exacerbated if the player's foot gets caught in the turf and by the additional weight of the defender. Potential injuries include sprains or tears to ligaments in the knees and ankles (including the ACL and MCL), and fractures of the tibia and fibula.

you can clearly see here that saka's foot is behind him as he's falling backwards, that could be dangerous for his knee/ankle, especially if his foot was caught.

I played american handegg and watch NFL for 22 years, I know horse-collar is dangerous. In football -> people fall over so much it looks way worse than it actually is.

I know the rules say it is a yellow card but I find it concerning that a player would so blatantly deliberately foul an oppenent. Chiellini knew he would be booked but didn't care. That tells me the yellow card is not enough of a punishment.

That is called a tactical foul to stop a counter play, say in midfield or so. You take the yellow instead of a goal.

Tactical fouls should be red imo. If you foul someone purposely thats just not ok.
I think the fame would profit a lot more if you punished those fouls much harder
