Aldo has decent leg kicks that could take some strength and speed from Conor if they land. What you guys think ?
its like the time i bet on mayweather but hope manny wins
i feel the same way about aldo / mcgoat especially at the odds right now
it all depends how much Aldo can exploit the weaknesses of the wide stance Conor likes to use.
the only other striker with any where near the skill level of Mcgregor that Aldo fought was Hominick in 2011. And, from what i recall Hominick had a much more closed stance. i'll probably go back and check out that fight more closely and add to these comments.

And whether Conor can effectively use his variation on the right straight where he keeps his elbow in and throws it truly straight. (you can kind of see it in the previous video, he misses a bunch of traditional right straight's [before where it's qued] then you notice him focus on his right arm position and let's a couple go and they land super flush and set up the KO punch.)
the reason it works is boxers learn to notice your elbow (subconsciously if they are well trained) moving outward before you throw the straight. Between that and ones shoulder it gives an expert plenty of time to react and possibly counter. When you throw it with your elbow in first thing it hides is the elbow movement, the next important thing it hides is that the fist is coming at them.
As smart as we like to think we are and as good as we like to think vision and the brain works it's all actually really bad at noticing the fist is getting closer.
It seems to have been left out completely of boxing, my guess is the big gloves (blocking pillows) mean losing that bit of power makes the punch to weak to feel like it's doing damage. also traditional boxing form makes blocking that punch easier than typical MMA stances (especially when concerned about takedowns).
Has Aldo ever faced any one as big as Mcgregor? Mcgregor does not look as though he belongs in the division. Mcgregor is constantly yapping about how small his opponents are. I do not think its possible for Mcgregor to remain a featherweight for the next 5 years because i don't think he'll be able to keep doing the weight cut required.
I think the same thing about Rory Macdonald as a welterweight.
There is a picture out there of Rory having lunch with Liddell and Forrest Griffin. He looks like he is over 210 lbs.
in MMA Hominick always fought at 145 or lower.. he is 1 inch shorter and his reach is 5"+ shorter than Mcgregor. in Kickboxing Hominick fought under 155... and you're weighed in on the day of the fight.
his "canadian super lightweight" fights are at 145 and often he would fight guys who weighed less than him. he won the belt against a guy that weighed 130 lbs. he had several WEC fights against guys who are normally below 145.
i thought i might gain some insight into Aldo's next fight by watching UFC 129..i was wrong. Sure Hominick was a good striker, but his reach and stance make him nothing like Mcgregor.
a pretty open and insightful interview with Rousey
"Me beating the crap out of her is the best thing that has ever happened to her," Rousey said. "Why? Because she's made a whole career and a living out of it."
I almost want them to add some WWE type flair for Nelson. Instead of having him walk out like other fighters they should just have him sit in the audience and have the other fighter say he can beat anyone up and then have a camera pan to Roy eating some nachos or something then call him to the ring.
A little random entertainment for Roy fans and it could be interesting for casuals who aren't familiar with him trying to figure out if they really just picked an audience member to fight.

I could dig that, but only if all the fighters stood around the cage making it a lumberjack match.
I'm down, and even let him fight buff jobbers (possibly from other leagues, maybe even have them trash talk UFC a little). Some hotshot that actually thinks they can beat Roy but just isn't ready for UFC.
It could be good cross promotion and gives some depth to the game without having to rely on a steady pipeline of phenomenal athletes that are also champion level fighters in multiple disciplines who want to beat on each other for kinda crappy money.
Dana and Zuffa strike me as the type that want a monopoly though, so maybe just do it through branding like gap/oldnavy. Bring back Strikeforce as the home of entertainment fights. UFC would be 'the best of the best'. Occasionally or at least 1 every card you take a popular figure from Strikeforce and put them in the ring with someone from the UFC but you add the flair from Strikeforce. You could do all the entertainment stuff with those.
You could also send a UFC fighter to strikeforce occasionally to give them a chance to 'prove themselves' against a UFC fighter and maintain legitimacy, while really it would be like an old fighters home for the UFC where guys who can't compete at the top level anymore go to play off whatever fanbase they established during their UFC career.
You could also try to keep the fight agreement rigging out of UFC by pushing it into Strikeforce. All the drama from boxing when it comes to not taking fights and such would actually add to the scene as opposed to detracting from putting the best up against the best.
It would also potentially act as a great pipeline for building popularity for up and comers. I'm sure there are more ways it could be helpful I'm not mentioning but it doesn't strike me as a half bad idea.
Nominations to immediately fight for the new Strikeforce as described.
Diaz Brothers Roy Nelson Josh Barnette Cub Swanson (is he still fighting?) "Mayhem" Miller Any active Gracie Ken Shamrock Kimbo Slice Brock Lesnar Uriah Faber Matt Brown Forrest Griffin I think you get the point...
