LOL Well Tom Brady, move over. Deflate-gate ain't got nuttin' on Smilin' Sam Alvey... ![]() Don't want that ad money to get diverted around Zuffa and all end up in the fighters pocket, that would be tragic. I do have to note the comedy of picking a fair skinned red head to advertise a tanning company though.

fair skinned red heads burn really, really easily... of course if this is one of those spray-on tans... then well ... it is hilarious. i wonder if Sam is getting bonus money from these guys because of all the additional news headlines as UFC execs lay the hammer down on Sam.

So it's hard for fighters to have their personal sponsors because of chances that they might be competition with UFC current contract obligation with their sponsors. This is normal i think: When reebok sponsors LA lakers, koby aint allowed to wear nike's during a lakers game, seems logical, no? Is it bad?

It'd actually be more like the Bose vs Beats thing going on in the NFL. While during game time, they can't be wearing beats otherwise players get fined, but players can still sponsor Beats individually. The thing is, there's so much advertising money, Beats is more than willing to pay the player fines in regards to wearing product when doing NFL stuff (such as wearing their earbuds during warm-up on the field)

I do think that the top mma stars should not complain too much, the lower ranked players also need some money to survive, else the mma competition could not exist. Depending on how the money is divided, i think collective sponsorships can be a good thing.

While I'm sure top MMA stars are still pulling in cash, based on the current tier-list of award, they technically are hurt the worst from the deal. 40k is chump change compared to what they were getting before from sponsors, but the difference was the fight pouch was big enough that the extra sponsor money wasn't essential to their cost of living to prepare for the next fight. This shit just stinks for all the fighters, whoever organized the deal really fucked up this time.

However, i think Dana and Uncle Frank have cut separate special customized deals for the top stars to make sure their income either stays the same or improves. Around the time hte Reebok deal was first introduced ...If you listen carefully to interviews done with people like Rhonda and Conor they allude to these customized special deals.
