because of the insane depth they have, the Kings rolled Richards with subpar players, and generally used him in less ideal situations than Kopitar and Carter. He's unfortunately still getting paid like a guy who is good for 60-70 pts a year. I don't know that he would be capable of that anymore even with first minutes, but he's certainly still a useful player. If he gets bough out he is goin to have a big bounce back like Brad Richards. The issue with both is they contracts they got when they were highly touted centers.
also fuck that fat baby, may this video be how we remember Uncle Daddy
He's also going to work in the Devils FO next year. Apparently this transition was all discussed when he signed with the Blues. he absolutely should have retired as a Devil though, so dumb. The writing was on the wall about his skills for the past 5 or 6 years. His numbers this year were absolutely dreadful, esp considering he was playing behind a top 5 D
Mike Richards cleared waivers and was assigned to Manchester. 29 teams did not want that contract. kinda surprised really given how many teams need centers. Maybe everyone is gambling on reentry waiver discounts?
in the battle of the cripples tomorrow, what do you guys think Sabers or the Oilers? On one hand, Sabers are their own category of fail. On the other hand the Oilers are without Hall.

That's a game where the winner is the loser.
Oilers got this. They beat the eastern teams fairly regularly.
despite the slow start Ovi's back on top of goal scorers. Also, laugh every time when he scores from his point. Its ridiculous - everyone knows he can shoot and score from there, and yet, it still goes in...
I'm actually starting to enjoy the offensive passing play that Trotz is implementing this year. Btw two sweeps vs Pens in a row, that;s harsh

You could watch that slapshot from the top of the right faceoff circle, and simply repeat it for the majority of his goals over the past few years...

exactly. that's what makes it so hilarious. why would it still go in?

Because Ovi's one timer from there is like a snipers bullet. It doesn't always go to the same spot, just to the open spot.

well that's obvious. But imagine the frustration of the opposing teams? they know if he gets a puck there he has a high scoring chance they try to deny him being there open they try to block the shot if he gets the puck nonetheless it still happens thats like when you scount 3 medivacs, have all your stalkers in position and still lose to that drop

his contract blows hard and if he doesn't return to at least a 60 pt pace that team would be screwed
I do think part of his decline is usage and deployment, even if the kings generally get more favorable starts even for the lower lines because of how good they are overall. go compare the kings and leafs zone start stats for a laugh. virtually everyone on the kings is over 50% because of their system, and the leafs have one player with more than 10GP with a zone start over 50 (trevor smith)
ovie's still awesome, and I do think that team is going to get good again with Trotz at the helm. I caught some of the game last night and it's amazing that teams still let Ovechkin get open at the point or circle for that one timer.
The NHL is adding a whole bunch of advanced stats to their site next month. Jimmy is on suicide watch
there's a new site up that does a neat look at all the various advanced stuff all on one page with line graphs and benchmarks for what is a 1st liner, 2nd liner, etc. it's pretty neat but still kind of early on (I think it compiles all stats through 2012 and there's no sort for year by year)
I also don't have the link at work and the site I found it on is blocked! consider this a promise to find it later because it's pretty neat
