With the Seahawks becoming the champions of 2013, it marks the beginning of the upcoming 2014 season.
For the first time, the NFL Draft will be held in May. With players such as Jadeveon Clowney, Johnny Manziel and Sammy Watkins, it can be argued to be "... the deepest and best draft class seen in 10 years".

For those interested, Mike Mayock did a conference call on the draft.

Wtf....

The Browns’ unpredictable head-coaching search nearly finished with what would have been the most unpredictable outcome of any head-coaching search since Jon Gruden was traded from the Raiders to the Buccaneers a dozen years ago.

Per multiple league sources, the Cleveland Browns nearly pulled off a trade with the 49ers for the rights to coach Jim Harbaugh.

A deal that would have sent multiple draft picks to San Francisco was in place between the teams. But Harbaugh ultimately decided not to leave the 49ers.

The 49ers could not immediately be reached for comment. Efforts to contact the 49ers continue.

The Browns declined to comment specifically on whether an effort was made to acquire Jim Harbaugh. The Browns characterized the search as thorough, and the Browns acknowledged that many options were considered. The Browns emphasized that the team is excited about its new coach Mike Pettine.

A deal would have been stunning, for several reasons. Harbaugh has taken the 49ers to the NFC title game in each of his three years with the team. Also, he would have joined the same division as his brother, Ravens coach John Harbaugh.

Which means they would have been squaring off at least twice per year, and competing directly for division titles and/or wild-card positioning.

LOL Why would Harbaugh want to gut a team's future and THEN go to coach for them?

Didn't the Browns just cap their GM and someone else? Like that team seems like a black hole of shit where nobody wants to be.

Well, Harbaugh still hasn't gotten a contract extension yet, and he wants to be paid like Belichick.

I'd pay him Belichick money. I like him. And even though the franchise had some talent they were underwhelming before he showed up...

They're not cash-strapped, but they were rather stingy for a while in the aftermath of the Eddy DeBartolo era. They seem to have gotten better recently.

Frankly, I think Harbaugh deserves to be one of the highest paid coaches in the league. He's good, and he gets his players to play for him. He'll probably command around $10 million per year.

That and he probably doesn't want to be competing for a playoff spot against his own brother.

Rofl, that shitty team you speak of is a QB away from being legit. Top 3 WR, Top 5 TE, great OL, and a well above average defense. Let us not forget Hoyer the Destroyer, if he rehabs well he could start for them. Allowing them to do some crazy stuff with their pick, mainly being Watkins. That's pretty unlikely though, but the two hot QB's will likely be snagged before they get a chance at em.

Brandin Cooks dominated at the combine, if he isn't taken in the first round. I'll be surprised.

I agree with you to an extent, but let's not go too far. No team who loses 10 out of their last 11 games is a QB away from being legit, unless it's Peyton Manning, and everyone is a Peyton Manning away from being legit.

Some of those games were close. I think Browns fans had those expectations with Weeden and Campbell. They were winning games with who was an unknown in Hoyer. So I think there is a place for optimism if they get someone better than those 3 at QB. Having two first round picks makes it that much better for them. If Manziel and Bridgewater aren't there for them at the 4th pick, I hope they do go crazy and draft Watkins. Gordon with even more breathing room, disgusting. Then roll the dice later on McCarron or Carr in the second/third round.

No where near a cleveland fan but think about detroit years back going 0-16 and look at them now. The browns have been quite bad for some time and it only seems reasonable to think that with high draft picks each year, you can build a fairly strong football team as those years go by. LOL at the comment about the Choke Artist. Playing well in the regular season is nice, but it all comes down to winning championships.

I like Cowherd's point on the matter: in the NFL, the QB's far more important than the coach. In college, it's the opposite, but in the pros, I don't think it matters that much. I would agree that they would become a contender if they got a top 5 QB, but everyone would, which really means you need a really good QB to win (duh).

Yeah, that mighty Detroit team has gone 29-51 (average of 5.8 wins per year) since going 0-16. Really lighting the world on fire.

look at when they won and lost. Detroit is a great example of why a coach matters. You need to be able to motivate and adjust in the second half of the season. Especially after a bad loss.
