The Minnesota wild were a really shitty team at the beginning of the season with only 1 line that could really score for anything. Now after the constant lane shuffling has paid off to a hot team thats looking good to preform for months into the playoffs and then for the years to follow.
guys like Conne Smythe and Frank Selke could basically do anything they wanted. There is nothing in the NHL that remotely approaches the kind of absolute power these individual guys held.
read a bit about the guys who helped start the NHLPA for the kind of crap NHL GMs used to pull.. and get away with it.
hell that child molester ring in maple leaf gardens... if that existed today in the Air Canada Centre and it were discovered.... there would a laundry list of guys that would get life in front of a firing squad..... basically, the child molester ring went on for decades and when it was finally stopped.. hardly any one did any time in jail at all.
you can thank Harold Ballard's gong show of an administration for that one... talk about "not correcting your errors"..
i mean why do u think Martin Kruze committed suicide.
If Burke were still in Toronto, he'd have traded Kadri for a third-rounder by now. He was destined to be a failed prospect as long as Burke designated him whipping-boy status, and it's nice to see him finally getting a chance to excel.

Kind of silly to make such assumptions and it's b.s. You have to wait and see what you really have with some players.

I found the rumors about the suits letting him go because he wouldn't pull the trigger on the Luongo deal to be . Sometimes you really have to let shit play out and I find it funny that we hear such rumblings again because of the trade deadline when in reality you should let those boys who got you there play to see what you got. I knew Reimer would bounce back after that concussion and there really is no need for it. The media surrounding this team are derps. You can hate on Brian all you want. The guy certainly gets a lot of shit and it's nice to see a pleasant write-up of him today for once because he did set-up a lot of things here. In reality he wasn't that bad. His real downfall was being too loud and fighting the media.

Doug Hamilton and Tyler Seguin for Kill Phessel... what a bad bad trade. Burke was awful and deserved to get fired. he can take his american college "prospects", and his american coach and he can GTFO.
its too hard to play against all these teams that visit the ACC because the visiting team has so many kids from the local area..ROFLMAO. i can't believe burke wasted his time blabbing away at a baseball statistics conference... BYE BYE BRIAN.
Brian Burke's greatest move as a GM was to one day find out that he was lucky enough to have a perennial 4th liner on his team named 'Rob Niedermeyer' and that some future HOFer named Scott wanted to play on the same team as his brother. Huzzah!

that and Pronger cheating on his wife in Edmonton. Which is why outside of getting two HOF defenders and a goalie who played out of the world -- as many SC winning goalies tend to do before they come back down to earth. I think Burke's main problem was though he talked too much, he talked a big game but time and time and time he failed to deliver except once in Anaheim. But on the other hand, think about it this way: Feaster, Tamboloni, the previous two guys in Toronto, Chicago before Bowman Sr. showed up as 'special assistant' or whatever, and Columbus for its entire history had vast periods of suck and none of those guys were blowhards.
I don't really care for Burke, nor do I think he's a particularly good GM, but in fairness he pulled off some great trades during his time in Toronto. As much as he's primarily associated with the Kessel trade (excellent player, but still a clear loss for the Leafs), he should also get credit for acquiring Gardiner and Lupul for Beauchemin who wasn't working out very well here, Phaneuf and Aulie (who they should've kept, but whatever =\) for spare parts, and Franson and Lombardi for Lebda (LOL). Maybe Colborne for Kaberle if he turns into anything more than an AHLer in the future.
The biggest problem Burke had as a GM was as you said. He spoke way too much. It's very easy to lambast him, but in all fairness he wasn't as bad as people make him out to be.
The Leafs are talking to Kipper. This is going to go nowhere. Frigging hell.
St Louis' pick will be probably in the 15 range, so that alone is good. Its not like Bouwmeester was going to accomplish anything for the Flames he hadnt for the last couple of years. But at least the flames are finally serious about rebuilding. Now move Cammi and Glenncross.
Such a fucking shitty performance from the Wild tonight. The kind of crap you expect the Panthers to pull. Really helps out the Blues in the playoff race too, putting them back in 8th.

Just playing to where they belong, the lower half of the playoff teams. When Backstrom has a bad game -- and he has been playing badly for the last 4 games or so, probably has to do with some injury they arent reporting -- the rest of the team looks mediocre.

The Blues kind of do that to teams. They've gotten really shitty goaltending this year, though.

Rob Niedermayer wasn't on the 4th line. He was on the best checking line in the league.
