They're good shoes. I have a pair and they don't have a rock hard sole that would be optimal but they are cross trainers so you can't ask for that. It is flat and it's not squishy so it works.
Thanks for the feedback!
Weightlifting as in olympic weightlifting or the powerlifting movements? If the latter, then you can get any thin & flat soled shoes.
Just powerlifting right now, I think I am going to go with the shoes I posted I like how they look and they have pretty flat soles.

If you're only using them for lifting weights, I'd encourage you to look at proper lifting shoes (whether it be for Olympic Weightlifting or Powerlifting). For powerlifting you'd be better off with a pair of converse than the ones you linked, but from personal experience I still much prefer a pair of Oly shoes for squats etc.
They don't necessarily have to be expensive (e.g. THESE), but they'll generally look similar to that link and have a completely solid sole. Addidas make some good ones, and I can vouch for my Addidas Power Perfect 2s. I'm afraid I don't know any US sites.

Chuck Taylors have been my go-to shoes.

you definitely wont want to olympic lift in them, but minimal shoes/barefoot shoes are a popular choice for a reason. you can do the powerlifts in them, and go running, do plyometrics, or just wear them out without looking goofy or seriously hurting your performance in any one category. sure they arent ideal for anything, but they arent bad for anything (except olympic lifting) either.
if theyre what you want and thats the type of shoe youre looking for... go for it?

Thanks for all the advice guys! I think I'm just going to go get the shoes I posted earlier and yeah Chuck Taylors are definitely the best choice for a cheap budget but I just can't stand the way they look

imo chuck taylors are horribly ugly, and you cant run or do plyometrics in them, but you can in the shoes you posted. i might go barefoot for deadlift if i were you, but you dont have to. hope you like them when you get them!

Ran into a friend I hadn't seen in months...she didn't recognise me and said that I looked fit...first compliment I have had that didn't feel like BS in ages... feels great. Now back to the gym :D Also getting close to my 5km in 30 mins which is one of my goals for the year

Cutting sucks balls.
It's not even the eating that's the issue. I thought I was one of those people who just never gets cold, walk to the gym in my gym shorts in the snow etc. Well, it turns out I'm not "one of those people", it's because I was eating a ton. I have less energy, I am cold, and have massive DOMS in my hamstrings from squatting (this could be coincidence, but I never, ever get this normally). Shoulders are sore, and my biceps were aching just trying to wash my hair this morning all because of 3x10 bicep curls on wednesday.
On top of this, I'm still going over my calorie limit. Only one phrase sums up how I feel about cutting atm: it's loose butthole.
|
Are you sure you're doing it right...? I didn't have any of those problems when I cut.
|
Myeah, much prefer a dirty bulk. Just om nom nom nomnom nomnomno it's OK I'm bulking!
|
Slow it down more maybe, lowering the calories a bit each week.

Good point. I know that especially the leangains stuff recommends taking a two week break at "maintenance level" to let your hormone levels normalize in between bulks and cuts. Maybe it's just the swing down in calories that's causing this, and you'll get used to it soon enough.

I benched my old PR today and the last rep was the closest I've ever gotten to have my head explode. The bar moved upwards at 1mm per hour. When I finally racked it, it turned out I had arched my back so hard that I got cramps and had to go fetal.
Like. A. Fucking. Boss.
edit: also, when I deadlift, I run into this problem:

Anyone else know this feel?

same, gorilla arms so i dont get that high on a deadlift. snatch grip deads, power cleans, or shrugs though...
|
That's one of the reasons I don't shrug, could never get it right.
I did a bit of googling, seems like I'm not the only one that's had this on a cut. I'll stick with it ofc, I expect it'll pass or I'll get over it, but will see how it goes.

Lol try smashing your dick in between a bar and your pelvis during a 130kg snatch. Dat feel.
|
After well over 4 years of trying various methods, I gave up doing front barbell shrugs because of dick friction (Don't have the problem with DLs). Accordingly, I stick to behind the back barbell or dumbbell shrugs.
I think I'm done cutting for now, and I'ma work up to a 635 DL. Should be about 3 weeks out or so. Should be fun.
