That said - it's spring break whoooooo. Slept for 16 hours today, starting to make up for the three all-nighters I had to pull last week (it was midterms week). Going to get tons of sleep and food this week and make up for everything that went wrong while I was sick and/or studying.

Just as I will file all the people with (exaggerated?) negative comments regarding that video as 'people who lash out in fear because they are secretly scared of the possibility that they might sometime in their life be approached by a guy just like that and they know that they will react in the exact same way as the bros did' I like your videos as well, doesn't that make you worried?

I'm sure I would react the same way the bros did. Different words, sure - but the same intention. The guy in the white is a dick, and he deserves to be treated as such. I'm not scared of it, because I think it's the right way to react.

The guy isn't remotely funny, he is acting like a dick (I actually came across a video of his before this he was trying to do some PUA stuff on chicks on the street and it sucked balls but even so I think I reacted diffrently to the content because I know what his channel is about). The comedy lies in the responses that evokes from people. Why the fuck would you care about a snarky comment from a small guy WHO DOESNT EVEN KNOW YOU and poses zero threat to your worldview. To the point where you think the correct respons is to hit him??? To me this is in stark contrast to the philosophical aspects of lifting that most people claim to be a part of. To do what must be done and not be influenced by meaningless obstructions. There might also be a cultural barrier about this.

If you say you don't like it, people automatically try to classify it as some sort of defence mechanism or manifestation of personal conceit and fear. Is it not possible that I just really don't appreciate or enjoy it? I might just as soon say that people who enjoy it are people who are actually very afraid of talking in public and afraid of talking to strangers, and that they experience lack of social fear vicariously by the behaviour of this man. (Of course I don't believe that). It's just kind of pointless to start assuming that people's taste in humour is derived from insecurity.

It had nothing to do with what you like and don't like, I don't care the slightest. It was your added social commentary that was unfounded and I created one in similar style.

I had a mate who smoked over a pack a day and he quit cold turkey he could do it and so can you :D Every time you feel the need to smoke do some exercise instead. Just something you can do anywhere without looking ridiculous. Some BW squats, at home push ups, standing calf raises, whatever just supplement it with something else ![]() ahh, its the 30 min walk to work today that gets me whirring, plenty of time to convince myself that i could just have 1 ciggy as a reward for such a shitty day and shitty life. then at work (shop) seeing my coworker go enjoy a cig and thinking , why am i putting these rediculous restraints on myself, making me feel bad when i have control over what i want, and if i want a cigarette ill damn well have it and enjoy it!! i got through today without smoking tho, i just threw at myself "you know you wont feel better by doing it, you never do in the long run (5 mins after), besides how is smoking going to help your shitty breathing (on the walk)?!" tomorrow should be easy, so long as i eat properly (otherwise ill feel miserable), then monday back at the gym and thats day 7

To be fair you did say that people who like it have no personality. You can't really preach on people making assumptions about others. I found the video pretty asinine, boorish and just painfully unfunny. But different people have different humour, never mind different countries having completely different humour (e.g. basically no English people find U.S. comedians close to funny, and I expect vice versa).

and it is, actually. because its not trolling, as trolling by nature requires some hidden comical or hidden aspect of cleverness. hidden being a key word - a troll is never suspected or caught trolling, otherwise it doesnt count. if it was a tiny weedy guy doing it then it would classify as trolling, and be funny. but its not, its just a threatening-looking guy trying to start shit with random people, and is reasonably closely associated with bullying and aggressive behaviour. i only saw 3-4 of the clip pieces before my net cut out

This is precisely what is at work here, and I'll give my personal reasoning behind not only disliking the kind of humor displayed in that youtube video, but also my inclination to look down on those who enjoy it. Before stumbling onto TL a few years ago, I was an extremely involved member of the bb.com Misc community, one of the dens and originators of "gym brah" humor (the other major contributor is/was /fit). This community consisted primarily of US, English, and Aussie folks, and there came to be a line drawn in the sand, a line between those who enjoyed memes/douchy public stunts/"u mad bro" gesticulations and those who did not. Funnily enough, I began to see this split play out in real life all around me, as I was then still a student at the Ohio State University, which, at the time and may be still be, was rated the "fittest" campus according to Men's Fitness. Don't get me wrong; such a designation means jack shit, but the point is that my campus had 5 gyms, 1 of which is one of the largest collegiate gyms in the world, and lifting was an incredibly common means of meeting and finding friends. To suddenly begin hearing "come at me bro" every time you brush against some schmo at a bar/party or " u fawkin joocy brah?" in the gym while you're just trying to get a workout in after class is one thing; it became a fucking plague unto Columbus, OH, and if the few Misc. brahs I knew from the UK/Aus were being even remotely truthful, similar things were happening all over the world. The odd part was how certain one could be that a public user of "brah" memes was a douchebag. It have literally never been impressed with a person I've met who thinks such things are really that funny off the internet, and having gone to a school so full of them, believe me when I say I really tried. I've even been dragged into fights thanks to kids wearing big boy pants while hurling "u mad bro"'s. I cannot speak for sc4k's persona experience, but I don't think I'm far off in suggesting that US and English cultures have a fair bit more of an exchange than the rest of Europe, with language similarities playing an obvious role, and I would not be at all surprised if his disregard comes from similar experiences (I believe you call the people in question "chavs" ![]() ![]()
