First squatting session of the 3/5/1 cycle. I was lucky to get all the reps I wanted to. Apparently only 4 hours of sleep don't help your CNS to recover all that much...

Done it twice so far, inside my car inmediatately after gym. Feels awesome.

Age: 24 || Height: 5'11" || Weight: 165 lbs Starting Date: 6/20/2011 || Goal Date: As long as it takes Weight goals -- At this point, no goals regarding weight. Training goals -- Improve my vertical jump to a point where I can dunk a basketball consistently. Nutrition goals -- Take in enough calories to keep progress steady on my lifts. Misc goals -- Improve every aspect of my basketball game: in particular, ball handling, court awareness, and jump shot. Hi folks! Been lurking this thread since about May of this year, and you've all been a huge inspiration for me! Background story: + Show Spoiler + I've always loved playing basketball, but never played formally for any kind of school or rec team due to lamentable shortness. My parents signed me up for a club swim team with the theory that spending three hours a day in a "weightless" environment would make me grow. ![]() Anyways, I've since stopped swimming, and have been playing pick-up games regularly at my gym. YouTube videos of people like Kadour Ziani and Terrell Cournoyea made me decide that at 5'11", I'm not too short to dunk, and in fact, should theoretically be able to make it look as easy as these freaks do. :D Prior to beginning the Starting Strength program in June, my weightlifting was rather haphazard, my knowledge consisting of that amalgamation of WeightRoomBros (mis)information that I'm sure you've all heard before. Since that time, I've read Starting Strength cover to cover, and my lifts are as follows (my current work set weights, I've never tested 1RM for any of them.) Squat: 285 lbs Overhead Press: 110 lbs Bench Press: 195 lbs Deadlift: 340 lbs Power Clean: 190 lbs At this point, I'm thinking that my raw strength base is sufficient to start plyometric training. I've read most of Kelly Baggett's material, so I have a pretty good idea of where I need to go from here, but if anyone here has any input, I'd appreciate it! A side note for Eshlow's consideration, if you would be so kind: Ever since I started squatting below parallel on SS, I've had sort of a constant ache in the area around my sacroiliac joint: pain that I'd rate at a 1 or 2, barely noticeable, but definitely there. While doing my squats this morning, I felt a sharp and sudden pain in the same area, much more severe than what I've been experiencing. Since it was my last set, I'm guessing that there was some kind of form breakdown that caused this. Any suggestions as to which specific aspect of my squat form I could focus on to prevent this from happening again? I know you'll probably want a video for a form critique, but my gym says no to cameras. And as far as the injury goes, not much to do but rest and ice?

Was losing motivation after 2 weeks of sleep deprivation and accidentally hurting my elbow yesterday. That leangains article worked miracles along with everyone else's posted progress. Gonna get off the internet and stay off to finish an assignment early, then sleep like a baby. Days will only get better. No matter what the fuck happens to me i like to know at the end of it i can always say "I STILL FUCKING TRAINED" There have been times when my stomach was empty because I had no money for food but, I still trained. There was a time I was in love with my wife but, my spouse was no longer in love with me. On the day she rid of me, I still went into the gym and trained. I was once hit by a car. My neck and back hurt terribly but, I still trained. I have had to work long hours that went well into the night but, I still went to the gym and I trained. My mother took her last breath in my arms, but as badly as I hurt, I wiped my tears and I trained. Nothing and no one matters to me more than what I am fighting for each and everyday in that weight room and on my platform. I do not care how I feel, what I may lose out on, or what the weight may feel like either in my hands or resting on my chest. I renounce the idea of hard and the concept of heavy. I detach myself from negativity and, as a weightlifter, I find the courage to never let anything, which I have no control over, dictate my performance either on the platform or in any other of my life's responsibilities. You must learn to do the same if you want to become a great weightlifter. You must learn to do the same if you want to win.

I'd probably go to the hospital, not the gym, after being hit by a car.

Uh, because the "for the women" section says that lifting is the same for men and women? It'd be redundant....
