I like MLG for the reason that we get to see more games from more players. I mean, Naniwa's run this invitational was like, what, two games? Same with IdrA. With big names like these you want them to have more chances to show what they're capable of, and MLG kind of does that (though it does go overboard with how hard it is to fall out of the championship bracket).
Yeah, but this is a different kind of event, if you want them to have another chance then there's DH Winter and DH Summer. DH Inv. is a spectator event, it should be seen more as going to a "concert" rather than a big convention. It's focus is entirely different than MLG.

I think the point is just that you can always strive to improve and of course it's challenging to have the same kind of production with an event more than ten times as big, but it's still worth pointing out things that they can learn.

so true. best production BY FAR! mlg, please watch this and learn.
What does MLG need to learn? they for sure had a better stream.
How to host an event, quick game turnover, how to do a concise ceremony that isn't awkward, how to do adverts. There are many others I'm sure
You are of course aware that MLG is much much larger in size, hosts two streams at the same time, and has brought us some of the most memorable moments thus far in SC2, are you not? MLG does an amazing job, I don't see why every time a Dreamhack thread comes around people start calling it out...
MLG is mostly known for jumping on the console bandwagon, aiming for fratboys in the states jumping up and down in excitment over the last Halo game. If you can't see the difference and why people get upset then you should study some Esport history.
MLG has an equally long and colorful history, when the only game was Halo 1 for the Xbox and teams drove across the country sleeping in vans to play on old TVs in folding chairs for $150 worth in prizes. MLG started as a hobby for Sundance and has turned into something that is not only benefiting the foreign scene, but is globalizing Starcraft and esports in general. And let's not be totally ignorant about the console thing, esports is esports.
Say what you want about MLG, but give them some damn credit too. Dreamhack is the shit, but then again, so is MLG.

I know it is. Just pointing out why the comparisons to MLG doesn't really apply. DH Summer and Winter can be compared, but it's a while between Summer and Winter. MLG fulfills a very real need for more big LAN tournaments in SC 2, and I think that's kind of their niche.

Please take time and get your facts straight before you comment.
All players were flown to Valencia for free. All players got to stay at a 5 star hotel. All players had their own computers available during the entire event. Top 2 gets wildcards to DH winter. Winner got 15000 USD.
forgot the most important there : They were INVITED !!!

Really sad that Thorzain couldnt take :,( Ah well made for great final, to bad DRG didnt go up against one of the protoss earlier, would have won Thorzain the tournament
To be fair, Dreamhack is never going to come close to MLG. That being said, both tournaments are great!
I think it's cool we're going to hit 500 pages too
MLG has the crowd and Code A/S spots. Dreamhack has production, worlds biggest LAN and best foreigners(EU players mainly).
To me it´s pretty even.
MLG has production as well (and I've been to one), more of the best foreigners (Naniwa, Thorzain, Huk, and IdrA have all been to MLG too... not to mention dozens of other greats) and more great Koreans. And it's a weekend long, not just a few hours.
But anyways, this isn't a comparison thread, so I won't argue which is better. What's important in this thread is that DreamHack was very well done! ♥
Dreamhacks are longer than MLGs, this was just an invitational. And DH has had all the good foreigners from EU, NA and of course Sen MLG has had better Koreans though.
But I agree, we shouldn´t care too much about which one is better because they´re both awesome

That's true. Player-wise i'd like to think that IEM is better than MLG. But spectator-wise MLG is better.
Well you cant compare this event to MLG. This was a invatational. They had 8 players and it's way way easier to have a event with 8 players rather then the amount MLG has. You haev to compare MLG to DHWinter/Summer but those are not either really compareable. DH is mainly a LAN. The E-sport thing is a thing they got on the side. Im just glad for all the things DH and MLG does for the scene. I really dont see any reason whay there are so many retards on this forum that argues that one is better then the other.
