My hat is off to you Mr Polt! I have been a fan sort of for a while, but today you showed the world just how good you are.

Just comparing his current story and form to that of someone that is blossoming with a lot of potential but hasn't fully bloomed yet.

Polt played well, but until he plays inspirationally he won't have a particularly large fanbase. Nestea was the consensus best Korean Zerg ever since GSL2, but it wasn't until his jawdropping, nerdchilling series against anypro and sC that he became hyper popular. In fact Nestea's fanclub was only made after that semifinal against sC iirc. I thought Polt won over many people today with his "balls of steel" play in set2. His marine micro while in the face of siege tank fire was amazing. Even Tastosis was blown away by it. His play earned him the nickname of Daredevil terran. However, there will always been a large number of Polt haters, many of them who ignores his tremendous record ever since his loss to Jinro.

Actually I was going to flame you (kinda) for getting the Nestea fanclub fact so wrong, but I just went and checked, and you're... right? What the fuck! Seriously though, people loved him well before that, he was the hope of Zerg! I suppose it was because him winning the GSL wasn't as epic as others' (MKP made it anticlimactic), and he started slumping after Code S Jan (losing to San, Ensnare, Goody, Dimaga, Alicia). Still surprised though, hrm

I didn't think he'd lose that terribly on the other hand (was thinking around 2-4 or 3-4). Hats off to Polt for pinpointing MMA's risky early builds and penchant for mech units. MMA couldn't even adjust until the final game (the early ghost build was a great idea, but MMA should have only tried that on the first game, instead of the last one, where Polt started easing up on the aggressiveness). It'll be a hard loss to bounce back from for MMA, but I hope he recovers well enough and uses this hard loss as motivation to become at least 10x better for the next Code A tournament or super tournament. I also hope that he adopts more safe builds so he doesn't get Marine/Marauder rushed so much. He also has much work to do to get his TvP up to even it out with his TvZ and TvT. *sigh* It's a long road to the top, isn't it?

But then the finals happen and it's always sad, regardless of who wins, because it's always very one-sided. It's even worse when the finals of a non-GSL special one-week tournament are far better than the 100K tournament. Oh well, great play by Polt. Yeah, it's a pity that the finals (baring the MKP vs Nestea series) have not really lived up to the hype. It's not GOM's fault, the players simply haven't played up to expectations. However, I think today's result was the most shocking, because the favourite lost 4-0. In the other finals, it was the underdog who got roflstomped. That being said, I quite enjoyed the games, especially set2, with that mind-blowing "balls of steel" play. Many people were so hyped after the TSL3 tournament because the final was extremely close. Alot of people were crediting the format for the success, however, they failed to realise that the format for GSL and TSL is exactly the same - the TSL was just lucky to be blessed with an incredible final.

We're not taking anything away from Polt or saying he didn't play that well. He played amazing and showed that he is well prepared and had a lot of confident. What we're saying is he needs a "style" and/or epic inspiring games in order to be lovable by more fans in order to gain a fan base. And no, "nice micro" isn't really a good trait unless it is a jaw droping micro that no one has ever seen (like how MKP showed the marine micro against banelings that no one knew is possible at that time). Lets look at the fan favourties: Fruitdealer: First to use banelings so creatively, risky aggressive style, inspiring first season (you guys still remember his game 3 vs OgsTops in season 1?) MKP: Marine style, jaw-dropping marine micros, inspiring base trade styles (his games vs nada anyone?) MC: Has a build named after him that involves heavy sentry push. One of the best at Micro. MVP: Probably has the best game mechanics out of anyone in the game. Nestea: Reactionary style. Can react and counter everything throne at him. His game vs SC was undoubtedly one of the best games in SC2 history. Just overall very inspirational plays MMA: Boxer style drop play. Never seen anyone drop as much as him especially in ZvT; sometimes even the observer couldn't follow along. His GSTL wins are no doubt some of the best games and comebacks as well. So now you look at Polt. He is just someone that has above average in all department, and never make many mistakes. All in all, nothing really special or inspiring. Nothing I can actually think back and say "that was cool and epic!"
