I've been using the Staircase to improve my macro. It's a lot of fun to do so in this way. It's helped my macro and my psychological approach to the game a lot more than it's helped my win rate but whatever..all in good time I suppose.
The "have more stuff" league including bronze to plat seems like a myth from my experience. I'm in silver with platinum spending skill, getting into fights with 60 food leads and still losing because of tech. But I'm finding satisfaction in knowing that at least up to that point I had a huge lead. Just gotta adapt to make it work now.
Anyways, thanks for the cool step by step program!

With GM spending skill it's pretty easy to make it into Platinum with no-upgrade Marines. Just adding upgrades was enough to bump me up into Diamond.

I've had the same experience as Antylamon. I'm playing unranked and constantly versing Platinum players with tier 1 units (I play Random) without upgrades. I sometimes win with Marines, but it's much harder with zealots/lings!
EDIT: I try to keep it GM spending, which is proving difficult with gas and tech to worry about!

Ive 2 times already gone up to for example platinum.. and if theres any bronze players here, that wonders if it was hard.. id say no.
the first time , i went bronze>platinum i played for 3hours straight and it took me 13 Total games to get to platinum.
and last time (2 days ago) it took me 12 games from silver>platinum, so its super easy.. ive met alot of platinum players that play and act like bronze players, so its not hard at all anymore, it was hard in hots, took long sometimes. But i dont think ill see a bronze league player with 5000 games and still in bronze ever again.
(Sorry if this made no sense, its 4am and im tired so my english sucks lol) I have friends who are Bronze with 3000+ games played And my GF can't get to platinum even if she's got a reaaallly good macro (don't know how). (I'm amazed at a gold player with 85% inject, 10seconds max supply block and GM spending skill) but... still in gold. And she plays 6 to 8games a day... What the actual hell Does she mass Drones or something?
Not really. She's just really good at macro but don't know how to pick a fight. And don't know how to deal with early pressure. But if you let her alone... God forbid you lol (i saw her destroy a diamond player without any micro (because she don't know how) just because of remax and A move lol).

@rude
She likely isn't playing agressively. If you can encourage her to do so, she'll likely increase her win rate.
@everyone Keep in mind, that a big part of TheStaircase that is missing right now is a benchmark that shows how efficiently you are gathering resources. A player can have an excellent spending skill but not be making workers properly and lose games as a result. We're working on that benchmark now

That's what i'm trying to do but she doesn't like early pressure because she can't do it well... And then she dies (bacause she can't macro behind it like a madman (madgirl ?))

If she stays away from the things that are challenging, it will be hard for her to improve.

True. But we will train this we

You're reading way too deeply into this...

I think i should make a blog about this :p

Do it like the guy that tried to get his GF to Diamond, but she quit after being stuck in Silver for some time. Your GF is actually like to play as it seems comparing to her.

She plays more than me so... and she has coaching lessons 1H a week so...
Yeah i'll think about it
Sorry for the offtopic i'm out !

Hey! I'm back
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtFSjIb2ibJTdE5seEZpVTc4aHZkUnNRUlA4azM5Mnc&usp=sharing
Some slight changes to TheStaircase:
TheStaircase ends after step 5 (3 battle units) unless you want to continue on repeating step 5 with different units. Hellion and Hellbat are now "Given Units" Step 2 is Given Units Only Steps following Step 2 Race macro is no longer a benchmark. We will re-introduce this benchmark when we have more conclusive proof that it is meaningful.
Enjoy 5.9.1
6.0 will have 2 benchmarks:
Spending Skill Saturation Speed
We are collecting data for both and will have accurate and updated benchmarks for all league goals.
|
You mean I can now mass hellions and troll people into ragequits? YUSSSS!!!
Saturation speed was implemented in ggtracker yesterday, I noticed! Pretty cool!
|
I am so excited about Saturation Speed. I think its going to be exactly what we've been looking for

Thank you for all of your work Jak! I just came back to the game after a very long break and this is exactly what I need. I'm using both the Staircase and the Core and I am very excited to watch my progress.
I decided to play Protoss because it was the race I was the least familiar with.
http://ggtracker.com/matches/3386956
Here is one of my step 1 games that really sold me on this method. I did not think that I would win any of my step one games. And when I did and went to GGtracker and saw my GM spending level to my opponents bronze it felt good to know the only reason I won was that I was finally getting the basics of the game down.
Again thanks and i look forward to step 2!
