I always aim for 100 SQ every game Beat a NA diamond player, restricting myself to chargelots, stalkers, and all forge upgrades (and no micro, all in the spirit of the staircase). Really fun, 40 minute macro game. He went mostly gateway with void ray and immortals. Think I hit just below 100 SQ.

@moss Spending Skill is much more accurate. Firstly because the data pool is much larger and more recent. Secondly because it scales with game time. If you use flat SQ, the longer games will be harder than the shorter ones, rather than everything being equally difficult regardless of game length. 100SQ in a 40 minute game is kind of insane tho Well done!

Thanks!
Isn't Spending Skill just an average of SQ over different leagues? Like, bronze = 50 SQ, platinum = 70 SQ etc?
And yeah, it gets really hard. Me and my friend start spamming gateways and hatcheries like crazy when we hit supply cap, and start suiciding our units into their siege tank line. Gets really fun to watch ^^ It's odd, but I've found that it's easier to get a high SQ the more bases you have. When I get all-in'ed and am forced to go on one base (simply cause my probe can't get out of the base to construct a nexus, so I make more units and gateways to keep my money low), I usually end up with ~90 SQ, but when the game is an all-out macro fest, I get around ~110 SQ.

@moss The higher your income, the more forgiving SQ is, but usually players have much more difficult time spending late game. Spending skill is SQ over game time:

Alright, seems reasonable.

Any chance of this beeing uploaded to EU Servers?

@g0ddy You play TheStaircase on the ladder or vs ai or against friends. In team games, ffa, or 1v1. It is designed for the melee game type. There is a custom map, but the main focus is on playing melee games. You can track all of your stats at ggtracker.com :D

Anyone try doing the staircase with Terran Mech play? Any insight on how many production facilities you need in mid-late game or when to get them?
I can easily get GM Spending with almost any Bio composition, but I recently decided to try my hand at mech play. My spending is usually really good up until I hit 4-5 bases and a 200 food army. Even if I remain aggressive and continually replace units getting lost, my money just sky rockets! It's like units just don't build fast enough out of factories. I've tried throwing down a crazy number of factories, but the moment I re-max and the army hits 200 again or if I spend a few seconds leap frogging tanks, suddenly I look up and my money is at 4k/4k.

Really Interesting method, I'd not heard of it before until now, a friend just linked me here after i'd asked for tips for a new player. I've asked my girlfriend to try it (who is totally new to the game) as I found it difficult to guide her and make her understand the mechanics. Its hard for a Masters league player to relay information with somebody totally new to the genre!
|
@Lux I agree with that sentiment so much. For the same reason I think coaches should be judged on the successes or failure of their students and not their ability to perform. Let us know how she's doing with it! :D

Hi
Got her to watch the video and read your post etc... she played two games last night and I saw drastic improvement, almost straight away!
admittedly I sat over her shoulder reminding her to keep building Marines, not to look at the battles etc... but she did really well, didn't win but like you say, its not about the winning, especially not initially!... I did catch her stutter stepping her marines though, which was kind of cool because I hadn't taught her that :D
I found her macro improved 10 fold!, think she just needs to get the hang of the controls more than anything now.

I'm high master in europe, imwanna be like Grandmaster ... top grandmaster. Do you think this "staircase" can be usefull at this level of play?

At that point you need to figure out what your weaknesses are and work hard to improve your game however you can. Macroing well in GM is hard b/c of multi-tasking, so even if your spending skill is below GM level, doing the Staircase will be a walk in the park for you and you won't learn anything new from it. You'd be better off just trying to focus more on improving your macro in real games, in my opinion.
|
@Tib TheStaircase is designed to give players a solid foundation of mechanics and basic strategy so that they can enjoy the exploration of the game maximally. If you're high masters, I would assume that you've already build up a solid foundation. I would however suggest to start tracking your games on ggtracker.com to find your weak points and taking a look at TheCore.
|
I already use TheCore now, since 3weeks now so i'm not as good as before. But it is really nice, i love it i still use just 6 control groups, but once i'll get use to it i'll use all 10 :D.

@Tib Awesome to hear
@everyone
SATURATION SPEED IS COMING TO GGTRACKER.COM SOOON! It is perfectly reasonable that we might be moving into TheStaircase 6.0 beta today
|
don't tell anyone but it's up
|
I thought saturation speed was in ggtracker for a couple of weeks now! Has anything new been added?
