I've been meaning to wright something here for a while so I think now is as good of a time as any to tell my story:
I was in bronze for like 8 seasons( I played like 3 1v1 a season back then) I was just a casual player playing monobattles and team games mostly. I got tired of getting "the league card" pulled on me so I decided to take 1v1s seriously and the next season I got to silver(i stayed there for a few seasons). Then HotS beta got released so looking for some gameplay I found this guy streaming by the name of "TheJaKaTaK" I figured I'll watch this n00b play and see the new units in action. while watching him he kept speaking of mechanics, macro, the core, and the levels. I watched and learned then a week or so passed I figured I'll give this "levels" thing a try(it was the levels back then before it was the staircase). At first it was hard to win with nothing but zealots, soon however I found my self winning games once I got the pylon timings and macro down. 2 seasons later I'm diamond and so close to masters that I can taste it. I have beaten thestaircase, and I'm using thecore hotkey layout aswell. I'm positive if it wasn't for you JaK I wouldn't be at the skill level that I am currently at. It's ashamed that there won't be "another year of TheJaKaTaK". I would like to thank you JaK for all that you've done for me ,and the rest sc2 community. I'll miss ya JaK and it looks like I have to find another stream to troll now.

I think you misunderstood me about "I might be able to snag platinum now" I meant with the test accounts, playing step 1. Not with my personal ladder account. I've been "playing the game" for quite some time now.

There will be another year of TheJaKaTaK. It just won't be an every single day stream anymore, that's all. Streaming is not really for me. YouTube is a much more appropriate medium for the content I'm creating.

Hmm I'm having a really hard time with Ultralisks at the moment. I can't get to them before 3/4 bases (need that income just to afford them) Nore do I survive my games that long, as I get bum rushed by units hundreds of units. Specially in my lower leagues where everyone just one base rushes you. Lost three games without even getting the Utralisks out I've managed one game so far, and it was pointless because I couldn't afford Utralisks and upgrades for them, so they were basically just walking targets. If anyone has managed and could throw me some pointers would appreciate it. I'll keep messing around, see what I can do. Maybe I just need to produce more lings, tanks/collosus/mmm kinda makes them useless at buying me time atm though. Thanks.

I'm doing step 2, on Ultralisks. Assuming I'm meant to go down the list of units to use them all at least once per step? Maybe I miss understood. I've slowly worked out a way to get ultra's up within 14 minutes, I max out then as well, plus 3/3/5. Although I have yet to get the spending past master, not sure how to get the resources down, as I max out so fast, and my army doesn't really die, I max out almost instantly after any engagement and my income is so high Aslong as no one hits me within the 12-14 minute mark I can normally defend with 3/3 zerlings plus a a few spines. Total misunderstanding. Sorry. Step 2, you pick 1 unit and build only that unit in addition to your given units (detectors, workers etc). Take another look at the document. It should be more clearly laid out now:

I have to agree with Spaceboy (step 1: no gas). For Zerg, mass slowlings -outside of an early allin ala. 6-pool - are very weak. You have to be really lucky for this to work or have a very bad opponent, it might have some limited success vs a zerg opponent if they don't send a ovie outside your ramp.

Zerglings are especially vulnerable to any wall off (e.g. a bunker or two) would shut this down completely, followed up with hellion expand which is quite standard for terran.

But if the intent is to practise mechanics, then you could do Step 1 Zerg:
  • versus easy/medium AI; or
  • unranked for some pressure

Ha crap. Once again I over complicated it... so I'm actually on step 3 then haha. Was actually quite fun doing each unit individually at step 2. People getting 3/3/5 ultralisks at their faces within 15 minutes, usually crap themselves. Felt more like a Funday Monday exercise though lol. Thanks, I'll move on and start with 2 units now then lol. Although I'm on holiday for two weeks today, so I guess I'll end up starting again when I come back, because my memory is severally flawed.

Btw the bit that caused me to believe each unit, every combination, every step was this line: "When you have passed a step with each unit at least once, you have ascended TheStaircase." As it says every unit at least once to pass the ladder. I took that as meaning at step 2 as well. Which was obviously wrong lol.

Absolutely. The mode of play is restricted to melee only, but any of the steps can be against AI or friends, or unranked, or ranked. w/e the player wants as long as it isn't an arcade game

The intent is to practice mechanics, but its pretty easy to get into gold league with any of the step 1's (at long as you're hitting the GM benchmarks, which aren't too hard since you've only got one unit to macro)

Just go to ggtracker.com and upload your game. A league badge will appear in the spending skill column. As long as you meet or exceed your league goal, it's a pass for spending skill

Awesome, so, what is going to be next? What do you think you can do beyond what's already there? Anything in mind?

What do you think of (semi-)full-screen charts? The current charts are too small and although they give a good feeling of what's going on (especially on the x-axis), the y-axis seems to be left out!

Also, for the x-axis, how about changing the x-axis from numbers to in-game time? For example, if you zoom in a lot, you can see scales 0.2 (10.8 <-> 11 <-> 11.2) and such. How about changing that to in-game time like 10:48 <-> 11 <-> 11:12 ? This would also go really nicely with enlarged graphs!

By the way, did they add any extra information about supply? Since you're talking to them about metrics/replays, you might want to suggest that too!
