![]() Thanks for the help again, I'll have to re-enable this now that I know CG1 is for Hatch's only. I only found out because I was using CG1 initially for lings on egg drills when learning to use this new layout. It's also surprisingly not that hard to re-learn the new layout after doing drills vs AI on easy. Looking forward to future drills / updates ![]()

We're looking to spruce up our "Why TheCore?" video so we can release it on Tutorial Central Sc2. Send an email to thejakatak@gmail.com if you have the skills necessary to recreate (or better yet, improve upon) the still images seen in this video: This is a time sensitive project so please contact me as soon as possible.

I have been looking at the core for while, thought about it a year ago, but decided not to switch, took a break from SC2 and when I came back I decided to give it a try on October 21 2013 . So here I am about less then a month later and here is what stages I went through and how I felt. Stage 1. Very skeptical, it made no sense, just a bunch of wierd and random keys, strange control groups which made no sense and the build and advanced build buttongs made no sense at first. I decided to stick with it to give JaKaTak a fair chance to prove himself as well as the others who put so much work into it. Stage 2. After just an hour or two I started to notice some huge things with this layout that is so so intuitive. For example the rapid fire abilities, rapid fire warp in, rap graviton beam etc.. Just made so much sense. The building hotkeys was tied in with the unit hotkeys as well as upgrade hotkeys. For example if you want to make Zealots you press enter, if you want to upgrade charge you hit enter. If you want to make a Robo Facility for Colossus you hit 9 , if you want to make a colossos then you hit 9, if you want to upgrade thermal Lance then you hit 9. It is like this with all the units, buildings and upgrades. After a short while you start to see patterns and everything starts making sense after just few hours. Stage 3. I started to "Deliberate Practice" hotkey trainer, micro trainer, build order tester, warp in trainer. I spent the first week alone playing just the AI and arcade games to improve my knowledge and muscle memory of the hotkeys. I CANT STATE HOW MUCH I WANTED TO GIVE UP AT THIS POINT. I felt like banging my head on the keyboard, I was never going to get this, but I saw a light at the end of the tunnel. I already saw the benefit of using cameras for bases, pylon for warping in, as well as the control groups for army, support, air, harrass, scout(observer). Stage 4. I played a ton and ton of games, starting out using the Staircase method just focusing on 1 thing at a time to deliberately practice on. I got to where I could own the ai on max difficulty so I decided to practice on unranked ladder. To my chagrin I found out quickly that I could not last anytime vs the master division players that I was playing against. So I decided to make a account on Europe and ended up in Gold League. You got it, a former masters player now playing a low gold League, losing a ton of games, but getting that important practice in. As much as I laddered, I got much better much quicker just doing deliberate practice on certain mechanics in the Arcade and vs the AI. Stage 5. I started to get it, I am now seeing the fruits of the layout, it is all making sense and I am using more cameras and control groups then I ever did before. I can't say my apm is higher, but my play is much better as I am able to use cameras now for bases, pylons, and upgrades. Allowing me to quickly do what needs doing, without a penalty to my macro. I started to just use the hotkeys without thinking about it, and it all started to feel much natural. I still have hiccups when in game and I get stressed, so I have to make myself slow down at times. Current Stage. I am now beating again a few master level players and I am doing better Harass and multi-tasking then ever before. I could never go back to a regular layout as I would not be able to us all the cameras and control groups as I do now. I will continue to get faster and grow but now I am having so much fun laddering again. Yes it took me nearly 3 weeks to get here, I am not quite back to my previous level, but I am close. Yes it was hard, yes I wanted to give up many times. But I am glad I did not. I write this in hopes to encourage others who might be feeling what I felt. Hopeless at times, angry often , lost and positively befuddled some times. It gets better so hang in there, you will be glad you did. If anyone has any questions about how I use The Core with protoss then I would be more then happy to help. I also use the Razer Orbweaver with it and would be more then happy to help anyone setting one up or just answer any questions about it if you PM me. Thanks to everyone who has been working so hard on The Core, you all did great job.

What did I miss? Some keyboard layouts have an Alt-Gr key on the right side instead of just an Alt key. Alt-Gr registers as Ctrl+Alt in SC2. If you don't have an Alt-Gr key but Ctrl+Alt is used for setting camera locations, then you are using the wrong version of TheCore for your keyboard.

The only thing im having issues with is that my "next subgroup" button for cycling through rax/fact/port used to be "/", and now its M4. And thats a problem because i dont have extra mouse buttons. So i tried changing it but it unbinds every other command for the new key. How do i fix this? I believe you just bind it to a key that isn't used yet :/ Will wait for JaKaTaK to provide some suggestions.

I believe you're trying alternative keys that are already bound to other actions. I hope the following video found in the OP can help you rebind next subgroup: On November 09 2013 06:26 emathey wrote: For TRM Qwerty, is there a specific reason why halt building and build reactor are both H? When I want to build a reactor immediately after a building completes, I want to hold down H but then I cancel building and have to go put the worker back on it. Addons share Command Card with Stop, Hold Position and Patrol in flying mode, leaving those keys out as long as we want the keys for addons to be consistent in both landed and flying mode.@emathey Can't believe we missed that. Will fix in 1.1 :D Either an addon have to be moved far in to F/K, or far out to B/N. Alternatively, Halt can be moved out to B/N. But in that way, the T->H/U->H Select Builder -> Halt combo losses convenience, as T/U generally works better with H/H than with B/N. It's a matter of prioritizing.
