We will have a short time in the beta when things are still a bit volatile but it should calm down and stabilize relatively quickly. Not that i wont get used to it but that's been my main problem with it. loving the camera hotkeys especially, the normal f keys are hell on your hands. alt is so much more natural. also...why is warp gate shift+control+] that like the worst possible combo ive ever seen. i had to change it to caps lock hope the new one your working on isn't too different than this one Firstly, thanks for approaching the layout with such an open and mature mindset. Sometimes the trolls just get to be too much... I have had the same issue with c/v when relearning. You'll get through it! I believe in you :D I will change the warpgate, I never use that button because i find it more efficient to use tabbed production which makes the warpgate key useless. Anything rebound to a triple or quadruple bind is there because i never ever want to hit it. Camera hotkeys were all FoxyMayhem, much thanks to his Darkgrid Layout. Glad you like them, I do too. The new one is different. Very different. I never take the learning curve into account when designing a layout. My goal has always been to make the best layout possible regardless of how difficult to learn it is. Enjoy the Challenge. I'm also not attempting to convince anyone, this layout is more efficient than standard and grid. If you want to use a layout that will increase your apm and reduce wrist strain, use this one, or darkgrid. But if not, feel free to use standard or grid :D

If there's no finger repetition I would definitely consider making the same changes :D At the risk of sounding redundant, I try to use Q and Z as little as possible because the little finger is the weakest, shortest and laziest finger of the four. Think about it: Q and Z are some of the lesser-used letters of the alphabet, and the right little finger gets punctuation, again less used than the letters mapped for the other fingers. The same can apply to the ring finger, W and X. I bet Remington had this in mind when they invented the QWERTY layout. I have Warp Gate/Transform to Warp Gate at C, Observer at S, Immortal at A, Warp Prism at W and Colossus at C. Feedback gets W, and Storm/Research Storm get S. Archon Warp gets V. Bummer that even non-attacking units get the Attack command, and different units can't have different hotkeys for the same command. Thanks for the shout-out!

Do not let the trolls keep you down, im still using JaKaTaK righty for all purposes ingame and it is paying off nicely now, one of the things still weird to me are (un)burrowing with Y/N still, but people suggested using W/S for it so its fine. Keep up the good work, I will be looking forward to the new layout. When it comes I will switch from Zerg to Random :D

There's a new version coming soon... do we know how big a change the new layout will be? I just got used to this one. I'll be updating Chameleon with the new data after the beta for the new layout comes out. The new layout is different, but works only for actual standard keyboards (not laptop keyboards) because you have to take keys out and such. So all it will mean is that you have more choices. Eventually 48 more choices. (check blog for details) Enjoy ![]() EDITED for name change

I have a hard time navigating the keyboard and get messed up with where my hand is in relation to the keys I need to press, so I'm constantly looking down and losing focus. This layout helped a bunch though and I'm actually looking forward to practicing through playing. It kinda reminds me the dvorak layout for a keyboard, whereas the normal layout is the qwerty setup. Great stuff.

After seeing the write up on the first page and the thinking behind the setup, I thought what the hell, give it a shot at something new, and I have to say that it really made the game feel more natural. For example, if you are using your right hand on mouse, then you push away the side that the ESC key is away from your body. Place your thumb on the RIGHT SHIFT and make it so it stays comfortable to hit both RIGHT SHIFT and RIGHT CTRL at the same time. This layout would make you play viewing the game from an angled position, assuming you are using the laptop's monitor; also, some laptops have the ARROW keys cramped up on the right side, along with the NUMPAD. It COULD work but it will need some adaptation on your part, I guess. And also, you would need to output the game on an external monitor or projector so you can play with the laptop kb tilted. EDIT: He responded to you by editing his blog post.

For laptop players I highly suggest Chameleon. I'll be updating it to make it even better after the new layout is out. (very small tweaks, same hand position, homekeys etc) This will include making optimized versions for those who do not plan on changing their race.
