Make a playable, well balanced and fun map, but don't remake the same map with pretty aesthetics for the x-hundredth time, which is what I consider ESV to predominantly do.

You have yet to add anything to the discussion of this map, other than its too boring, and that the map maker's attempts at innovating weren't good enough for you. Seriously, if making maps is so easy perhaps you should jump on it and show ESV how to do it, right? On topic, I'm really interested to see how this map plays out, I have a feeling it won't play quite as standard as others are saying it will.

On topic, I'm really interested to see how this map plays out, I have a feeling it won't play quite as standard as others are saying it will. I have to agree, the map does look good, and I'd like to clarify what I'm about to say by saying that I personally don't think it a boring map, the layout of the later bases and the complete embrace of circle syndrome does make it different to other maps of late. On the topic of innovation, it's nothing like as easy as one might imagine. It is, very much so, like the build orders one can do in SC2 itself. Yes, you can do some very wonky things that are a lot of fun, and completely defy the standard, and win to some extent, but try doing those builds in the Grandmaster league. I can tell you you'll have trouble straight away, even if you're a career GM player. Mapmaking is the exact same way. There are so many set standards, based on both game balance and the metagame, that any innovations are drowned out by "oh this just looks like that map over there" syndrome. There is also something to be said for simply making a solid standard map, because since it conforms to what we know, the tip top pros who happen to play on it will be able to simply focus on what they know, and deliver the best possible game. I dunno about any of you, but despite how old and standard Daybreak is, as a map, the games I see there are always exciting to watch. That is all.

There should be something to fight about on the map, resource wise. It doesn't have to be Jungle Basis but this is indeed a bit boring. Looking forward to how it plays out though. That is true but sadly disadventageous for zerg. I would love to make such maps but they just would not be balanced or extremely hard to balance.

These highgrounds are really amazing and will provide us with an incredible lategame. The aestethics are great too, the combination of lava and orange fog is lovely. I so hope for this getting into the GSL... Oh, btw, why is a korean mapmaker better at making western names than superouman? Both of you (and all the people hating on the space shark) realize that it's an ESV trademark, right? All the ESV maps lately have a shark like that, whether a space or water shark. They're not just copying each other. It's to put a mark on the map to prevent infringement and to leave their signature on it.

Any chance you'll be posting an analyzer? Just the standard summary, I have a hard time analyzing the full detail maps. if not, still a cool map from what I can gather.

I didn't know that before it was mentioned in this thread... a month ago. ![]() But it's still just boring and not funny. I wouldn't go as far as that guy and call it childish or unprofessional, but it was a neat one time joke, I'm sure ESV could find something more fitting. Just my humble opinion. ![]()
