Yep. I just don't see the point to maps like this anymore. They're well made for sure, but there's others out there that are similar and already proven. I think map makers should try to innovate like the Korean maps I've been seeing. Atlantis, Daybreak, Metropolis.. all provide fresh and unique games.

On this map specifically, I'm not sure I understand why there's so much land behind the minerals of the natural. It's a direct connection to the main minerals which seems like it could be abused early game by Protoss and terran cheese.

While I do agree that this map is too standard and/or boring, its funny that you say "these Korean maps" because this is made by the same korean who made Calm Before the Storm, XelNaga Fortress, and the updated version of Crossfire.

You mean the unanimously most reviled maps in GSL history?

PS, he also made Crevasse, which, while proving that backdoor expos are always bad, wasn't terrible.

So do you want innovation and different stuff like backdoor expos or do you want normal, "boring" maps like this one?

I want a middle of the road approach. Make a playable, well balanced and fun map, but don't remake the same map with pretty aesthetics for the x-hundredth time, which is what I consider ESV to predominantly do.

Perhaps in the long term of SC2 meta they won't be, but for now, you won't show me one example of it not being awful.

You have yet to add anything to the discussion of this map, other than its too boring, and that the map maker's attempts at innovating weren't good enough for you. Seriously, if making maps is so easy perhaps you should jump on it and show ESV how to do it, right?

On topic, I'm really interested to see how this map plays out, I have a feeling it won't play quite as standard as others are saying it will.

I have to agree, the map does look good, and I'd like to clarify what I'm about to say by saying that I personally don't think it a boring map, the layout of the later bases and the complete embrace of circle syndrome does make it different to other maps of late.

On the topic of innovation, it's nothing like as easy as one might imagine. It is, very much so, like the build orders one can do in SC2 itself. Yes, you can do some very wonky things that are a lot of fun, and completely defy the standard, and win to some extent, but try doing those builds in the Grandmaster league. I can tell you you'll have trouble straight away, even if you're a career GM player.

Mapmaking is the exact same way. There are so many set standards, based on both game balance and the metagame, that any innovations are drowned out by "oh this just looks like that map over there" syndrome. There is also something to be said for simply making a solid standard map, because since it conforms to what we know, the tip top pros who happen to play on it will be able to simply focus on what they know, and deliver the best possible game. I dunno about any of you, but despite how old and standard Daybreak is, as a map, the games I see there are always exciting to watch.

That is all.

Nice map , so much paths and shrubbery it seems scary for a toss. I too question that base under the main. Seems susceptible to mutalisk harass , and from there to the main. Good map design though.

I think there are too many maps with all expansions hugging the edges of the map with 'my' potential bases as far away from 'your' potential bases as possible. There should be something to fight about on the map, resource wise. It doesn't have to be Jungle Basis but this is indeed a bit boring. Looking forward to how it plays out though.

That is true but sadly disadventageous for zerg. I would love to make such maps but they just would not be balanced or extremely hard to balance.

I agree. One time it was great, after Cloud Kingdom it looks like boring copypasta. Other than that I loooove the map. These highgrounds are really amazing and will provide us with an incredible lategame. The aestethics are great too, the combination of lava and orange fog is lovely.

I so hope for this getting into the GSL...

Oh, btw, why is a korean mapmaker better at making western names than superouman?

Both of you (and all the people hating on the space shark) realize that it's an ESV trademark, right? All the ESV maps lately have a shark like that, whether a space or water shark. They're not just copying each other. It's to put a mark on the map to prevent infringement and to leave their signature on it.

Excuse me, ESV guys, if you could stop hoarding all the skill, us no names would really appreciate having some of it.
Any chance you'll be posting an analyzer? Just the standard summary, I have a hard time analyzing the full detail maps. if not, still a cool map from what I can gather.

The Space Shark is the official mascot of ESV.

That's like telling TL "Can you stop with the horses?"

If ESV wants to come off as a childish organization that doesn't know when a joke has been beaten into the ground then be my guest and keep the space shark.

Map looks great otherwise though.

I didn't know that before it was mentioned in this thread... a month ago.
But it's still just boring and not funny. I wouldn't go as far as that guy and call it childish or unprofessional, but it was a neat one time joke, I'm sure ESV could find something more fitting. Just my humble opinion.

I'm feelin' like this is going to be a map where everybody gets a super fast 4th up, and we see some crazy strategies out of terran, especially. I expect a lot of mech on this map.
Tell me builds to help me win, please. :)
