There is nothing childish about an organization having a personal signature, which happens to be the space shark. In fact, if I recall correctly, it was there just for giggles at first, but the fans made it a scene because they loved it, thus we put it up for them. It's not what I would call a "mascot." You might think it's childish but the ESVSpaceShark twitter has 729 followers. People love it. Not everyone will and that may just be you. That's fine. A few examples of jokes beaten into the ground are chanting USA for stephano, google zerg rush, dustin browder destructible rocks, idra's "wub wub wub wub wub" music, or TLO's beard.

Seriously lacks innovation. Yep. I just don't see the point to maps like this anymore. They're well made for sure, but there's others out there that are similar and already proven. I think map makers should try to innovate like the Korean maps I've been seeing. Atlantis, Daybreak, Metropolis.. all provide fresh and unique games. On this map specifically, I'm not sure I understand why there's so much land behind the minerals of the natural. It's a direct connection to the main minerals which seems like it could be abused early game by Protoss and terran cheese.

Map looks great otherwise though. It's not a joke. It's a mascot. We are a mapmaking TEAM after all, and teams usually have mascots to represent them. As far as the map goes, the aesthetics are wonderful, and the map nicely emphasizes high ground control. Well done Jacky! ^^

Map looks great otherwise though. Serious? ....... It's a signature since Blizzard has banned any in map advertising. I'd much prefer "ESV" signs around the map but that's not allowed. Also isn't a game about having fun? Why are you trying to take the fun out of the game ?

While I do agree that this map is too standard and/or boring, its funny that you say "these Korean maps" because this is made by the same korean who made Calm Before the Storm, XelNaga Fortress, and the updated version of Crossfire.

Does Blizzard just have certain exceptions (GSL), and the ESV label will have to be removed from this map before it is published? Don't get me wrong I love the space shark, and am not at all against it.

You mean the unanimously most reviled maps in GSL history? PS, he also made Crevasse, which, while proving that backdoor expos are always bad, wasn't terrible.

In fact, that sort of explains the direction he's taken with this map: simple, but just plain solid, which it is. The layout might be seen as standard and boring, but hey, it's his first ESV map, and that might have something to do with it. At least the aesthetics are amazing, awesome space platform trickery! I also love all the pipes

When I see someone say a map is boring to me it screams exciting starcraft. The map is just the field, as long as it serves it's purpose, which this map will, why the complaints? People complaining should offer specific constructive criticism, so they should say a piece of map they dont like, or something that should be added. Blanket general statements with nothing to back them up help no one. I think anyone who says this map is "TOO standard" or TOO boring should make their own map and post it.

Im perfectly fine with standard maps that have small changes and innovations. such as the large amount of LOS blockers on this map.

OT: I like the map. There's definitely room for maps which, although they don't completely change the game, are just very solid. This is one of those maps. If every map innovated completely then no other maps would ever benefit from that innovation, because they'd just move on again. We need some stability in map-making. Solid maps like this are good.

And so do you. Anyway this map isn't "too standard" by any means. Copious LosB in unusual places, and a tower setup that provides a devious attack route to "cut in" near the natural / 3rd over the little high ground strip. The army movement in an even game gone to 4 bases will be very dynamic. This is one of those maps that looks "meh" but has subtle depths. Compare to Daybreak which looks exciting but is actually cut and dried after the middle bases have been taken. (Not to disparage that map.)
