Role starts with 0 points, so they must be earned/garnered in the thread. Encourages good play and interaction with many players. Possible downside could be this role is given to a weaker/newer player who does not have the thread presence/charisma to obtain those points. Palmar pretended his power was something like this in PTP but he was full of shit I think. God I loved that game.

You can also create a "simulated Chrono Trigger", or a "simulated DBZ mafia", or just a "simulated anything you ever want" basically. The host provides the foundation, and the players provide the cool roles that use it. It can give more variety to different PTP games (without hindering and the joy of creating roles at all), but it would also make them more robust and (like I said) synchronized, and thus more memorable I think. Although anybody could just ignore the "framework" and create whatever the hell he wants without taking it into account. Thus I think there should be some mild "reward" for sticking to the framework. If there's more incentive to stick to the framework to create mechanics in your roles, then more people will do so, thus adding to the synergy I described above, thus creating more unique and interesting game scenarios. Maybe something like "If you create a role that has to do with points, you get 10 more additional points per cycle" or stuff like that (which would depend on each specific mechanic of each framework).

I might instead do a question-cast. There are some pretty damn good questions and topics for discussion asked so far. Both Mostaca's questions (balancing being constructive vs. spammy) and the interest in meta-arguments as a whole.
