I like charm start the best because if you have a bad early game with early gank and you have to go back early you can still buy your tear

Two questions about Zed:

Could somebody explain to me why energy runes are a no-go?

Second: How important is blue on Zed since it helps quite a bit with energy regen (10 -> 16)?

you can start dblade if you know you won't get ganked for a bit (i.e. vi jungle) and you don't need the sustain

Not sure about Zed specifically, but energy runes are usually considered a waste since they don't actually do anything to help your energy management.

You might run out of energy a second or two later than otherwise, but 99 times out of 100, it's just plain better to learn how to not spam skills as much aka energy management instead of "wasting" rune slots on this.

As a top laner, what do you do when you take down your opponent's tower?

This happens to me a lot (people pre-ranked don't know how to play against Teemo, huehue) and I don't know what to do. It feels like if I try to gank mid, which isn't always successful, or go back and buy, my top opponent then gets a huge amount of time to get free cs. If I stay in lane, I'm pushing too hard and I die when their jungler comes, as long as he doesn't hit a mushroom and gives me time to escape.

How do I press the advantage?

Group for dragon or stay top and keep killing your opponent and don't get caught
Math doesn't kill champions and neither do wards

A single ward and some shrooms and teemo specifically can push to 2nd tower pretty easily and safely.

Generally speaking, grouping for dragon or a push on mid is a good option in that situation.
Or just don't push so hard and zone him.

why is there no good AD+armor items? There are two decent AD+MR items as well as an AS+MR item. All we have is Wriggles, which is pretty bad now, and I suppose you could say Atma's but Atma's doesnt make sense to me, it gives crit chance, yet is for people who build tanky, but who is building tanky and also relying on crits?

The whole premise of the site is bad. Its fine if you know what you are doing, but if you dont it just gives you bad advice and is counterproductive. There are good guides on there for sure, but you need to be able to find them, and new players dont have the knowledge to be able to find a good guide.

I'd say some of the best guides are actually here at TL lol. If you dont like the format or whatever then I'd reccomend the "featured" or "Approved" guides on Solomid.net

If you are looking for the TL of LoL, you here already. TL LoL best resource imo. You have a question? Ask in the GD. We have a lot of really good posters that know what they are talking about. In particular, TheYango, Seuss, Slayer91, Scip, Mogwai, etc etc all drop knowledge bombs on a pretty regular basis.

I think best things you can do to improve as a player are to just improve mechanically and improve your game sense in general. I think people put far too much stock into laning. Many people think that just winning lane should win games, but it doesn't. Having good map vision wins games. Having more objective pressure wins games. Being able to make your team follow one collective strategy wins games. Roaming wins games. Team based items (Aegis, Locket, shuryelias, Randuins, spooky ghosts etc) win games. Teamfighting well wins games.

In my experience however, zoning your lane opponent and beating him by 30-50 CS rarely wins games by itself. Hell, I'd say in most games of LoL ever played one laner gets beat by 30-50 CS and loses the game regardless because other team was better in other faucets of the game.

Atmogs/Fratmogs (warmogs+mallet+atmogs) used to be the dominant top lane build before Atma's nerf in s2. Atma's wasn't always this bad. Most tanky bruisers rely on autoattacks to some extent, so crit isn't wasted.

If you need armor + AD, why not just get it on two separate items? There is no rule of building tanky fighters that "all items shalt have at least some AD" or "thou must finish your big item before you can start building your other items"

mobafire is pretty bad. a lot of the advice on that site is suboptimal / just plain bad, and it's really hard to tell what is the actually good advice (especially if you are new). lolking.net has guides too, and I'd think they'd be better since you can see the author's rating / history. I can't speak personally how good the guides are, since between when I realized mobafire's guides were bad and now, i mostly try to theorycraft builds myself / watch pro players / read discussion on teamliquid than actually read guides to champions.

Also, when you lose a lot more LP for losses than you gain for wins, that means your MMR is much lower than your division, and it's trying to pull you back down to your MMR. If you win a bunch of games in a row, then your LP gains/losses will equalize as your MMR comes up to match your division (or, conversely, if you lose enough LP, your new division will be now equal to your low MMR and your gains/losses will equalize).

I was playing Anivia and I got pretty fed, but by the end of the game their vayne could 4 shot me. What should i build accordingly? (sorry, lvl 17 nub here)

Ideally you shouldn't have to build anything. You should rely on good positioning and team support. Of course, that's easier said than done, and if you want to pick up a defensive item I'd recommend Randuin's Omen or Frozen Heart.

RoA might also be a good call for a semi-defensive item on Anivia.

But as vayne could 4-shot you, you could probably also kill her during a stun yourself. So if you hit that stun, she i dead, if not, you are. (This is in a vacuum, of course)

Against a huge AD carry like lategame vayne, the real defense is good positioning. She shouldn't be able to attack you without eating a disable from you or your teammate and you should easily burst her during that time. If she is so big that she can run in and blow you up before your team can really react then hourglass is the best option. The second you see that she's going for you and you miss the stun then just pop the glass, if you have any sort of positioning this should give your surrounding team plenty of time to cc and blow her up with maybe a spell from you after it wears off.

A noob question, if you take armor pen runes, does it go into negative armor on minions? If so, how much does it help you last hit compared to full ad runes?

Armor Penetration does not go into negative armor, see here.

According to the lolwiki melee creeps start with 0 armor and increase their armor by 2 every 3 minutes. So assuming that we are 9 minutes into the game a melee creep has 6 armor. If you hit for 70 damage (which is about what lvl6 renekton with no items/runes does then you will do ~ 66 damage to a melee creep without any penetration. If you run at least 6 armor pen it will obviously be 70. Ranged creeps have less armor. So I think as far as minions go it doesn't really help. Jungle monsters might be a little bit different (at least wraiths and buff monsters have higher armor).

The general consensus as far as I know (I haven't done any math on that) is that ArPen usually is better vs champions while flat AD is more beneficial for last hitting.
