What about a mechanic where you press R to switch control between the champ and its pet? (currently all the pet champs can press R to give the pet a right-click command, but I'm talking about actually switching control over). It won't be too awkward, since this method of switching control resembles using control groups in starcraft. The pet would have 3 abilities, and so would the main champ. Imagine Nidalee from an alternate universe where she has a pet cougar, and pressing R gives you control of the cougar instead of turning her into a cougar.
I'd also like to see it go all-in and allow you to put skill points in the pet abilities separately from your main champ as well. in this case you don't put points in R, and the QWE go up to level 6. The pet stats would scale simply by level up.
Something like this. Some AP mage with a lil' melee pet bruiser. http://jdan-s.deviantart.com/art/Draw-this-Again-Ashley-and-Red-319297761
There are a bunch of issues. How does nunu/cho/smite interact with your pet? (I'm thinking high hp, low resists). How well can a pet scale into lategame without stats from items? (Maybe the pet gets a % of the bonus stats that the champ gets.) Does the pet have a leash range or can he go anywhere? (Would set up cool things where your pet ganks top while the champ continues farming mid - this would also be a true test of multitasking skill)
What happens when the pet dies? There should be a pretty good reward for killing the pet, but obviously not as much as a full champion. Tibbers gives 50g -- maybe 100g?

also saying wings is best toplaner is a joke. Hotshot is also the only NA top laner that actually knows how to play 1v2s, because NA teams don't practice 1v2 nearly as extensively as Asian teams. Certainly not any of the top laners that play primarily solo queue. How do you play 1v2 lanes? I'm never going to be using this information for competitive reasons but sometimes when you play normals you get no jungle on the other team and I'm curious how you're supposed to deal with that situation. Also learning's gud :>

Not dying is generally a very big part of it. The ability to know which cs you can go for, and how close you need to stay to your tower. What you see with those who don't know how to 1v2 is either that they don't get any cs at all and thus are way underfed, or that they overextend in order to get as many cs as possible and pay for it that way.
It's not something you can easily learn, since it's not just dependant on your champion, but also on the duo lane and the jungle's choices.
HSGG is not a world class top laner (à la SoaZ/Caomei/Maknoob/Stanley), but he is among the best, if not the best that NA has to offer. People tend to underrate him atm.

Not necessarily an issue of just playing the lane, but also knowing how to have a good handle on your champion even when you're as underfarmed as a 1v2 laner. Doublelift made a point of this in his Acer interview--a lot of people know how to make pressure when they're fed, but Hotshot knows how to create pressure even when he's behind, which is pretty crucial to maintaining an influential presence as a 1v2 laner after the laning phase. You're not operating on solo lane farm, so you need to know how to be useful with the lower amount of farm, while at the same time looking for opportunities to catch up.
A lot of other top laners either overestimate their strength after laning from a 1v2 and just die a lot, or end up worrying too much about their development and trying to catch back up and don't do anything useful for their team.

A good suggestion. I wonder what sort of leashing would be on the pet. It would be cool to farm like Wraiths and wolves at the same time.

The simplest way is to just make it Meepo.

This would make balancing for the jungle a nightmare, though, with how fast it'd be able to clear. Also teamfighting: unless one of the two has pretty big range (and you'd rather have the champ than the pet), then positioning, kiting and avoiding being dived would be awfully hard to do (of course giving stuff like ranged squishy champion, and kiting-style abilities a la pull/AoE slow like Zed's E on the pet would help, but then you'd make it super strong whenever you don't have to act in a hurry).
|
with 1v2 just play safe and don't die, try to leech as much exp as you can. if it's a real 1v2 with adc+supp then you need to watch out for any jungle dives even at early game.
if it's a 1v2 with a non-typical composition, you're relying on your jungler to gank hard when any lane pushes, or you're relying on your lanes to push to their tower and win at CS while jungler farms up both jungles.

Kind of a moot point anyway. Riot has said on multiple occasions that they don't want to include pets.
Besides, it'd be way too hard to balance, unless they had a set of mechanics all to themselves. Like the character can't auto, but the pet can or something like that. It's another one of those designs that, since it's the only one in the game, is inherently overpowered and will require shitty numbers or it's FP/Ban material 100% of the time.

WR has shown over time that he can't play at a high level competitively, and Wings well he was nothing special when he played for TSM.Evo. Just because he's informative on stream and plays well in solo queue doesn't mean he's good enough to be a competitive top player. From my recollection all that happened in his games were that he got camped, cried about it, and then proceeded to be useless as he lost his lane. HSGG and Voyman are currently the top NA top laners, with Dyrus trailing behind them. There isn't that much else. We haven't really seen KiwiKid yet with Dignitas, so I don't know where he would place. On Scarra's stream he said WoD has more raw talent at the moment but they see a lot of potential in Kiwi. So take that for that you will, but the pros seem to have a higher opinion of WoD than most people on this forum lol.

But Alice still has her 5AAA combo and stuff in IaMP, SWR and Hisoutensoku.

that said, i don't see a pet system working in LoL in the near future (like syllabear pet level). Even looking at something as simple and basic as the mechanical structure of the game, the interface just doesn't really allow for it.
also, last time they made a 'pet' based champ, they made yorick, so be careful what you wish for.

I dont think Scarra knows what "raw talent" and "potential" mean.
What he meant to say is WODx is more polished.

What the fuck are you supposed to do vs. an ult stacking team? It seems like the easiest god damn way to win. We were up by 10+ kills and a ton of towers, had more dragons. We even got the top inhib, and baron once. But we could do absolutely nothing in teamfights because they had fucking leona, fiddlesticks, kennen and ashe ulting on top of each other. There's like nothing we could do in that situation because everyone melted. It's so damn stupid because we should've won that easily, but they just pressed R and won teamfights. what are you supposed to do?

I think it looks fine, though the difference in hair color is confusing.

Was avoiding bringing a multiple summons type up, because yorick is the only real thing you can get out of that (or Zyra, I guess?) and focusing more on the shaco clone / annie tibbers style, single controllable pet. I agree that the interface for it isn't amazing though.

Split push, avoid team fights.
