Not really true. The decrease is multiplicative somehow, not linear. At least currently. He's very WIP so who knows how it will work on release.

Considering how scary it's been when I've actually played Nautilus support.. yeah I definitely think Thresh is going to get some kind of nerfs from his current version. His kit is insane and his numbers are going to have to be really weak.

I've heard the armor/MR/AP per soul increase starts at 1 per soul and then bottoms out at 0.5 per soul - confirm?

Yes, In the one game I did I had ~124 souls and I recall the tooltip saying the next soul was worth .5

If it's true (and assuming a somewhat linear decrease) he'd get around 37.5 armor/MR/AP for 50 souls, which could not be that bad considering they can drop pretty fast (and randomly: did a 1v1 mid, was ahead of more or less 10 till ~40, then the other guy killed me twice, got lucky with his drops and ended up ~20 ahead of me). I wonder how it'll do in average, but I don't see him working well with a lane that tends to push or play very conservative, because both cases will make it kinda hard for him to collect souls without taking harass (his range is already a meek 475).

His E is weird at first, then pretty simple once you get the hang of it, but the range is so short that it almost feels like a knock-up rather than a push/pull.
His Q has a bit of a delay before it casts (you can see him do a spin with his hook) and didn't seem to pull the creeps (maybe we just killed those we hit by mistake).

The damage on his passive is #souls minimal, then it ramps up to an additional set % of your AD (exact % depends on the level of the skill) according to how long you spent without attacking.
Related to that, he's the first ranged champion who doesn't hit with a projectile particle, apart from Kayle, but she doesn't have a particle or anything at all while he has his hook going to the target, hitting it and coming back to him (could be awkward with animation cancel, couldn't try with my ~200 ping). It constantly gave me the feeling of being melee because of that, trying to get auto harass in was really weird.

The atmosphere and sounds are very well done though, eerie, ghostly and stuff like that, with moans of souls and lingering complaints. Too bad his lore can't hold up a candle to it.

Thresh should take teleport so he can get to lanes that are pushing in time to harvest souls. Except supports usually have to take exhaust.. oh well. More souls for the soul god! BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

Well nerfing Ryze would be dumb when they can do the perfectly reasonable thing of ending the Murmana interactions with spells.

Also he is still the same early.

I could understand smoothing out his early game in favor of dropping back his late game but straight ratio buffs just strengthen what he's already good at. (yes I know Q mana ratio was nerfed but W was buffed by the same amount)

Thresh thoughts:
  • Passive: This bottoms out at 0.5 fairly quickly, so the math behind it pretty quickly becomes a simple 12.75 + 0.5 * Souls. At 100 souls you'll have 62.75 Armor, MR, and AP, which is a number you'll achieve long before you hit 18 unless you're out of lane constantly. W also collects nearby souls and is only 40 mana, so he doesn't even need to put himself in danger to collect them. So long as he's near a creep wave or jungle camp being cleared it's going to be really easy to get into the 150-200 range or more if games drag on past the mid-game.
  • Q - Passive: The maximum damage is equal to 2*Total AD + Souls, with a minimum that appears close to however many souls you've collected. This deals a lot of damage later in the game if you've been diligently collecting souls, and his attack range isn't too shabby.
  • Q - Active: The windup on this hook ability is so huge that no pro worth their salt will ever let it hit them unless they're already slowed/rooted/stunned etc. Aiming it is like playing Blitz with 500 MS lag. That said, the fact that it stuns a target for 1.5 seconds + 0.5ish from him E makes it a very strong follow up to other CC. Also, it's a very good tool for initiation even if you have to hit a creep with it in order to be sure you get in range for your R+E combo.
  • W: The shield is really the least important aspect of this ability. What's most important is that the lantern can collect souls and instantly bring one team member on top of you if they so choose. In terms of supporting jungle ganks, this is extremely potent. It also serves as an escape for his AD. This ability is easily his best and most important.
  • E: This ability is little more disruptive than a Maokai or Rammus Q, but combined with his other abilities allows him to push or pull enemies into danger. Targeting it is a little tricky at first, but most people will master it in a sitting.
  • R: This ability does a lot of damage. The best players will position themselves so that two of the walls hit a key target on spawn, dealing up to 675+1.5*AP damage. You can push or pull other people into walls as well. It's not going to be easy to use once you're at a level where players don't panic the moment they see it, and keeping in mind who has Flash will be important. Still, it's a decent ability.
  • In General: His mana costs are way too low. With just Chalice I was able to spam abilities forever without consequence. While his W should be as cheap as it is, the cost on Q and E needs to go up to make whiffing them painful. He also gets absurdly tanky very quickly. He can easily have the effective armor of a level 18 well before that point if he isn't dying needlessly, and gets a crapton of MR and AP on top of that to boot. I would not be shocked if his passive got nerfed. He'll probably end up being a support as he does so much without items that it would be silly to have him solo. You'll absolutely need to crush him early in lane as he quickly gains way too much defense.
