After a massive 10-game troll crash, I was back down in the low 1400s. I got back to around 1550, then spent about a hundred games fluctuating there - some losses my fault, most random 0-5+ players that called me a nigger when I asked them to play safely. Then, randomly, one day I played a few games in a row with a friend and won all of them without incident. I'm 100 points higher than I was 2 weeks ago from a string of some of the easiest ranked games i've ever played. Once you get going, it really isn't that bad, but i'm convinced you need some serious black magic to pull yourself out of the 50% sustain cycle around 1400-1500. | ||

I'm not saying you wouldn't have made 1875 eventually, but going 50-20 is getting lucky with teammates. For example, a game I just had during this down streak I'm on which is pretty comparable to the average: I pick Nocturne. At level 1, our Cho'Gath goes solo to try to fuck with Fiddlesticks at blue and dies to Fiddle + Ignite/Exhaust Wukong. Cho'Gath begins bitching me out for not ganking top by 4:30, then calls our teammate a faggot for telling him to play safe if Wukong is beating him (after he tries to 1v1 the Wukong near his own tower and dies again). To make a long story short, I open the game 5-1, mid-lane Kennen somehow ends up in a state where he does no damage but also melts to Annie + Fiddle in team fights, bottom lane Kog'Maw loses his lane to Cait+Taric by like 50 cs (because I can't gank bottom because top and mid are getting fucked so hard) and Cho spends every team fight just chasing after Fiddle while the rest of our team dies. I would love for you to explain what magic I could have pulled to win a game like this. Obviously this doesn't happen every game and on average I win more than I lose. That said, statistically, there's nothing stopping me from getting teammates like these every game for 20 games in a row. In the grand scheme of things, my going like 4-11 over the last couple days involves at least a little shitty luck and you going 50-20 to hit gold involves at least a little good luck. | ||

Edit: And unless I actually see how some of the engagements are going on I can't really say. Opponents aren't really perfect, there're a lot of games I won on the way that had terrible laning phases like that but we pulled it together with warding and such and won anyways. I had my share of dumbfucks yelling at each other (like Mord complaining about ARAM when we were poking 5v5 mid lol) *shrugs* Games like ![[image loading]](http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/1846/whatthefawk.png) that, for instance. I've also lost some of them, like the double-streamed game when I played against Smash and lost because my team lost their cool. I know there're some bad-luck-instigated-streaks you can get into but aside from random slides that can totally be attributed to bad luck I don't think you can play 100 games and still putz around in the same rating area and call it purely bad luck. Even 5hit going up and down usually goes up after a bad streak. Took him maybe 50 games to go back from like 1600 to 1900, as he did it ridiculously fast (faster than I did). Edit: TL;DR I know there're bad streaks you can do nuffink about (although a lot of games I see people blaming teammates they're not really doing very well themselves, but don't realize a lot of subtle things they coulda done to turn stuff around) but it always annoys me when people think they're playing perfectly and are being dragged down by "elo hell," and sit there in the same spot after like 100-150 games blaming matchmaking. This was my big middle-finger to that, and I'm not denying I got some decent luck (as I didn't ever have a BAD luck streak), and 70 games to get 300 rating is pretty decent for someone who doesn't play carry heroes, but if you're actually better than where you are you'll go up, and not that significantly slower than I did IMO. | ||

There's way, way fewer players as a percentage who are equally capable of going 0/10 and 10/0 at 2k Elo than there are at 1500. 1500's filled with that type of people, because they can't consistently not feed horribly, even though they might be mechanically on par to go higher. A really, really good player can go 10-0 in matchmaking, pop out somewhere in the 1500s or 1600s, and win their way up to within 2 or 300 of their actual Elo before they start getting closer to a 55-60% winrate. Most of us aren't like that, or at the very least weren't like that when they started ranked. If your skill cap isn't that high, you'll run into a whole lot of difficulty once you get within a couple hundred Elo of where you belong because you're no longer that much better than your opponents. edit: Also, i'm in the same boat as you Utah - i'm fucking terrible at carries. Playing support at this Elo is Russian Roulette, and even though games are absolutely carriable as support down here, it can be a bitch and a half when both your solos are feeding after they say 'i no support' as last pick. | ||

I certainly don't disagree with this statement. I just think you posting a list of games in which you did okay to get to 1875 and calling it "The middle finger to the gtsrs of the world who think MM screws them, my last 10 en route to gold" doesn't really show evidence of anything (and is frankly kind of a dick move). The point is, your teammates will sometimes screw you out of games in which you did really well and sometimes carry you out of games in which you sucked. In the long run, if you deserve to be higher than you are you're going to drift upwards. EDIT: I just read your edit and I pretty much agree exactly with the point you made in the edit. Honestly, my biggest issue with ranked right now is that it's just often really demoralizing. In an overall sense my rating is climbing (my highest was like 1810 a week ago) but it just takes so much effort to get wins and a shitty losing streak like the one I just went on can wipe out like 2 weeks worth of grinding. | ||

People put so much stock into k/d/a and complain about players feeding that it's comical (see the Shikyo thread) and it pisses me off, so yeah. If you could see my match history of ranked games going back to when I started grinding my record in all of them would look pretty much the same, lol. Consistency ftw. And whenever I'd win on my first game I'd be like ALRIGHT! I'M DONE! GOT MY QUOTA! But honestly there're so many winnable games even with a crapped out lane like someone feeding the shit out of rambo's LS but we'd win anyways because as a team we made less mistakes, or in my last one our Brand was actually afk for 10 minutes because his battery died but we kept it together and actually were winning so hard 4v5 that when he came back I just wandered around dropping wards getting no exp while babysitting him and we won. But I feel like a lot of people just rage at that, play like ass, don't look at the whole game, don't play active, just sit there passively bitching, lose, and then blame matchmaking. zzz | ||
