My head hurts every time I hear about "early access", kickstarter and things like that. I'm pretty sure these prices will change, because right now they are not tested at all. When they see actual data, they will update the prices accordingly... And if people are buying even in the Alpha I don't think the prices are going down ![]() It's not a myth. You can't run free game just on cosmetics. Especially with Dota2's population of players. Valve made like 3-4 million from compendiums alone during TI3. They definatelly make a lot of money with Dota 2. You even have to add a fraction of every sale that uses the steam market.

Anyhow, you are wrong. As others have said here, not only Valve can run the game on cosmetics sales, they are making a good profit from it. Also, one thing that wasn't mentioned is a tournament ticket sales. Valve used to take 75% of ticket revenue to themselves and only 25% was transferred to tournament organizers. Now, when tournaments can use ticket sales to increase the prise pool, distribution is probably different but I'm sure Valve are still getting some money from it.

Considering it cost them a million in pricepool and I guess more than that to set the whole thing up, I don't think that this was too profitable. It just creates interest in the game to keep it profitable in the long run.

That's just one of the few numbers we have, we can't acess their finances. But if people are willing to spent almost 5m dollars on a single temporary item with a few benefits, it's a good sign that they are making money with other items as well.

It just creates interest in the game to keep it profitable in the long run. Dota 2 and Team Fortress 2 item creators get $10.2 million payout from Valve in 2013 Only 661 users are creating items for Valve games, so the average community content producer earned $15,000 from the items he or she sold on Steam in 2013. Valve gives 25 percent of the sales of items to its creator, which means the publisher sold more than $40 million in user-created goods in 2013.

Now tell me what their expenses are and we will know roughly their financial result... Too bad we don't know that. "Sold more than 40 million" means nothing.

Well I was just trying to offer some information that I didn't know until looking it up. No need for the passive aggressive tone. And of course we don't have a financial statement for a private company, but we know valve is quite profitable as a whole. Edit: And that still means they are pocketing 30 million a year from cosmetics that other people design. Not bad.

You know you aren't good, you know you are shit and you know you have a lot to learn. Hence no rage or anything. Wait until he starts getting good/playing a shit ton then you might see it come back.

I, for one, am very disappointed. Blizzard has an amazing intellectual property that they have built for almost 2 decades. And they use it to make a copy of LoL. Blizzard had a chance to make something really new and refreshing for the MOBA scene, and instead we got LoL 2.0. Also, 10 bucks for a hero and 10 bucks again for a skin. Good joke.

I fail to see how its LoL 2.0. Because its even more casual then LoL? If so then yes its guilty as charged which many people will like. LoL is just a more casual version of Dota. And Dota was born from Aeon of Storms. Every game has been inspired by/copied. And yes, they do indeed do some new things in the game.

Ummm not sure how you could watch this and say its LoL 2.0. Its very different from both LoL and Dota.
