ESL NA going on right now if you want to check out some of the changes in a pro game, although I doubt anyone's going to pick Chen / Raynor without practicing the new changes.

reddit is a cesspool that makes solo queuing unbearable. They think they're the best on the team while repeating verbatim something they "learned", such as tier lists and the-one-and-only-build that got 10 upvotes so it must be good. Rarely any meaningful discussion goes on there, just a lot of proclamations of why x hero is too strong, gold gain is too slow, or my opinions as a dota/lol/smite player. Then there's the occasional QQ and sometimes readable posts. I love reddit because every post makes me laugh, lurking there is one of the best things to do before playing hots.
I really hope there's a subforum here so I can stop going to reddit.

Why the heck is Barrel Boys banning Azmo?

Zoia, one of the hosts on Town Hall, is the worst for just parroting what he hears from "pro" players and presenting it as fact and his own opinion he's reached. This game is so new that experimentation should be ripe and nothing should be taken as fact.

there were a few games in a tournament last week where tempo storm picked azmo and did some silly things with his black pool / + damage on kill combo.

Experimentation should always be the focus, even in older games like dota/lol. In dota, I would try and pick heroes based off of our team comp and try for some silly combos. Rarely would I ever "counterpick" because honestly, counterpicking rarely worked because it meant our team comp literally never existed and ended up with whether or not we were able to outplay them and never "we won because we counterpicked X".
Heroes is already being analyzed like its finalized with people complaining about nerfs/buffs that will make the heroes either useless/OP. They go to reddit, see someone post a thread on why the latest patch made some hero bad, and now he's relegated to shit tier based off of theorycrafting. Then a pro team comes out with some comp/play and now he's firstpick. Unfortunately, the game is too hard for most people to think critically, so they'll just rely on netguides to play, buy current tierlist heroes, etc. Reddit now has threads about wanting gold refunds on heroes that were nerfed lol. I'm afraid the community is already lost, and frankly I blame reddit and their mob mentality focus downvoting any form of dissent that could actually bring valid discussions. Now we're stuck with tierlist picks and flaming when I picked ETC first rather than stitches/valla, but still proceeded to win the game with epic 4-5man mosh pits. Then I still got flamed because "I would've played stitches better"...

I just keep having games that confirm my theory that knowledge, or skill of a single person, can do little to win a game, and therefore the individual ranking is senseless on this game.
For example, on one game, i was playing assasin, and i told chen or gazlowe to take the garden terror because they are the best heroes to take it and not DPS or sup, and they refused because i don't know what the fuck they were doing. I had to take it myself (tychus) and if i had come to the base literally one second later we would have lost the terror. Then on the next match a jaina just decides that since he died for the fifth time because she doesn't know anything about position she is going to just afk and just move and hit something ocassionally to not get kicked.
Put IdrA or zuna or whoever you like on that team and i swear to you they're going to lose.
Your kind of right that i take specific examples, but this aren't just one game out of ten, these have been 2 of my last 3 games <.<, the exceptions seems to be that i sometimes get a team that knows what they are doing, win or lose they at least know what they are doing, but its not the usual thing.
But anyway, this is the last post i will make about it and just keep playing hoping it'll get better.

Um, I can fully understand asking for gold refunds for heroes. When you look at a hero like Abathur, they're basically a different hero after their "rework." There are heroes I've bought that I haven't touched since they were changed in some way. It's not for a lack of experimentation. It's that their new play style is not what I paid for. A hero that I will unfortunately be adding to that list is Tyrael.
It's not even about theorycrafting or a hero being good or bad. In a case like Tyrael, cast aside was a well designed talent. It changed the way the base skill worked in a significant and unique way and gave Tyrael a niche and identity as a warrior. It also added to his skill cap and had a bit of downside. All talents should be at that level. It's a travesty it was removed.

Bit on the nose there. I will say that there are a lot of changes that really don't make any fucking sense, but we'll see.

Frankly, I like using reduced CD talent for smite at level 4 most of the time (unless I really like my healer), and it works far better without cast aside than with it.

Cast aside isnt that important for that function? By placing a good cast aside you could guarantee the death of a hero with 50% hp or less, or you could help him get away, there were hundreds of useful situations where cast aside would be awesome. And it wasn't just good, it was fun, and i don't like they take fun away from the heroes.
Also, they seem to nerf tyrael damage every patch. Now, this doesn't affect me yet because altough i have my tyrael at lvl 9, i haven't bought it yet, but its a shame thathe is no longer as fun as he used to be, i'm not even talking about the damage or OP/UP.

Pro teams don't pick Tyrael for cast aside. They pick him for judgment => smite => blood for blood => eldruin => smite.

Err... cast aside was integral for deleting one person. You Judgement them and then you cast aside them toward your own team, further isolating them and putting them in a position to body block their retreat. I have a level 10 Tyrael and played him at a diamond / master level for a while. I can't even remember the number of times cast aside secured a kill.

It's sad Tyrael lost an interesting talent, but that doesn't justify a refund of gold at all. The overall purpose of buying heroes is to be able to play without restriction, aka when it's not on free rotation. Blizzard shouldn't have to care whether you bought it based off play style, collecting every hero, getting the 10 for hero/team league, etc. The intentions of buying the hero is really pointless as an argument, because ultimately you're just buying it to access the hero at will.
Some people will buy heroes because they love the play style, I understand that. But honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if every single hero right now will be changed somehow by the next few years. Maybe it's because I came from dota, but I don't place numerical value on heroes. 2k heroes are just as good as 10k, and nerfs/buffs to heroes definitely don't make them op/trash. Maybe they do now, but I'll accept it as temporary since its early beta with a very limited hero pool and Blizzard is still trying to flesh out the game. I say accept the sunk cost, it may mean you never play a hero again, then buy another hero, or play another game entirely.
If this was posted on reddit, i'd probably be downvoted to oblivion.

I don't care about the gold either since it's easy enough to make gold. I'm just saying it's understandable because like you said, some people bought the heroes because they liked them. And, after the changes, they might not like them anymore. It's just like in Hearthstone where you crafted a card because you wanted the card. After getting patched into a different card, it made sense to refund the cost. I don't think you're any better than reddit by taking a dump on that perspective. Some people even bought the master skin for 10k because they loved the hero. Blizzard's justification for the master skin price gating has always been an emotional one. You buy the skin because you really like the hero and really want to show your devotion.
TBH I would be all for an optional refund on heroes that were patched. If anything, it would serve as a good measure of how much people approve of their changes. Don't care for the refund? Then don't use it. Don't go whining about the people who do, though.
I have numerous friends that mained Abathur because he was a fun and unique hero that have stopped playing entirely after Blizzard nerfed him into the ground. A refund of the money and gold they spent on him + skins might not do much for them, but I still think it'd be a kind gesture.

I'll concede that I'm very harsh on the community in general, and I don't really expect it to change. It's really frustrating to see players so blinded by nerfs that their reaction is to ask for a refund is very selfish and ignorant of the bigger picture, which is to achieve apparent balance in a game genre that is nearly impossible to balance. Why would anyone quit the game because 1 hero was nerfed, even if it was your main? That fundamentally doesn't make sense to me. In any case, I think I've said all I needed to the past few days about my pet peeves, so I'll just reserve my posts to specific heroes discussions, or lurk if this thread falls into oblivion. I really enjoy this thread, don't get me wrong, but recent discussions on tier lists just really struck a nerve, and the only place tier lists were being posted and spread was through reddit, so I'm equally peeved about them as well. Overall though, we have good meaningful discussions on the nerfs/buffs and I'm truly sorry for venting some of my peeves.
