I don't even know the purpose of the "Retire" button at all, doesn't make any sense to me to use it.

As for my question:
Are there any viable priest decks without MC? Maybe a rush deck?
I kind of feel the hero power could be pretty useless for that, but surely can be wrong.

theres been some talk, (proven? idk ive heard it around) lets say you get to 8 wins, you should retire for more of a gold reward, while 9 wins gives you less gold and packs instead.
8-3 - 255g(or 265g, can't remember) and a Pack
8-1 Retired - 255g and a Pack
9-0 - 165g 40dust a Pack and Golden Trash
9 wins: Pack, golden rare, 255g
8 wins: Pack, 275g
9 wins: 2x Pack, 205g, 55 dust
9 wins: 2x Pack, 200g, 50 dust
9 wins: 2x Pack, 175g, 45 dust

So you still seem to get more value out of the 9 wins instead of 8.

While you might receive less gold, you might receive another pack, which effectively is worth 100 gold.
Unless of course, you have all the cards already and don't need any more packs.

People like to use extra gold for more extra runs, idk its really up to you.

So, I've begun playing yesterday. Unlocked 20/20 cards for mage, warrior, and priest decks. Put together my own deck, started playing constructed, got to gold 3 in a couple of hours. but now i get matched vs people who have crazy rare cards where I have zero rare cards in my deck because the packs i opened gave rares in druid/shaman. last game i was matched against a dude who had stuff like defender of argus, blizzard, vaporize, ethereal arcanist etc. what do i do at this point?

I don't feel comfortable enough to go arena because I don't know the game enough yet. How do I obtain cards? Do I suck it up and keep playing vs much better decks in constructed?

more gold for 8wins, so if you want to play infinite arena its better to retire/give the win to others. or you are good enough to constantly make 7+ wins^^

Little unsure how Thoughtsteal works atm. Does it steal from what hasn't been drawn yet, or from the whole 30 cards?
If it's the former my opponent had the worst luck yesterday with it...

Is the ranking supposed to work like this? Doesn't matter how much you lose, aslong as u win u will keep going up in medals.. It doesn't seem dependant on win ratio at all. Only been playing one day but that's what I gather'd so far.

Pretty much, you try to grind your way for gold until you are able to build a good enough deck to farm gold in a decent manner. If you really know what deck you want to build, you can disenchant the rare/epic cards you may have and use the dust for your ideal deck.

Alternative way to the top is buying gold/pack cards or beeing so good you can go infinite in Arena.

You get 2 random cards from your opponents <actual> deck, any card that was already played or is in his hand are out of reach for Toughtsteal.

Yes, that's the way it works right now. As long as you achieve a winning streak (the actual number for consecutive wins is unknown) you will get promoted.

At realese of the game or after the patch (not sure) there would be a new ranking system with 25 medals with 1, 2, 3 (maybe more) stars for each medal. So every time you win a game you get a star until you get promoted to a higher medal. Medal ranks won't be lost until you reach the higher tier of medals (not sure where that point will be), until then you can only lose the stars that let you get promoted from a medal to another medal

This is essentially where I am now too and I'm not sure if i should keep practicing before I start doing more arena.

@Comadose
After unlocking 20/20 for cards for all class, and getting a decent amount of gold.
Save up those golds.

You can watch Trump/Kripp stream on how to draft for arena.
Watch how they play and draft and u should get a idea about it.
Then go for arena.

Frankly speaking, playing constructed just to grind it out some golds is a waste of time unless u are doing dailies for those 40g/60g.

The best way to earn gold and get lots of pack without spending any real money and is the only way currently is to go " infinite " in the arena. Which means always getting 7+ wins in arena always.
Obviously only some players can do this but it is the only way.

Playing constructed after unlocking 20/20 basic cards for all the race is frankly not worth the time.
Because after u get to higher rank, you will face people who have much better deck than you.( I don't have any rares and I once face a Warlock who had 3 Legendaries(Jaraxxus, Ragnaros and Ysera) in his deck and I can't do anything about it.
And you will have that gut feeling of not being able to win because u have a weaker deck.
The time is better spent on learning to be good in arena.

At this stage, winning constructed is essentially P2W or Luck yourself to a victory.
Play your best

but the teamliquid article said to get to masters 3 star before doing arena! lol! i am feeling that the people i'm playing in constructed have better cards then me (well they obviously do) but you also hear of people getting lots of "high level" wins with stuff like trumps free mage deck (does anyone have a link for that) i've been saving my gold only played a couple arenas and went with only 3 or 4 wins. but i guess getting good at arena then building up my collection is the obvious next step.

If you want to have a good outcome of arena you should not play it until:

*You know every card in the game, know what your opponent can do so you can get the best value out of every turn you play. This helps quite a bit, but it's a skill more useful in constructed (lolwtf 4 Flamestrikes in 1 game, arena style stuff).
*You know how to pick the drafts in arena: getting the most efficient cards out of the 3 picks, knowing when to drop value cards for combo cards or for the same matter dropping a value card for curve advantage.

To get this much skill of this you need a lot of time or be extremly good at playing card games. Getting to 3M helps a bit in improving your arena win/loss ratio, not by a lot (because to get to 3M atm you can just grind your way up instead of getting in by skill). So basically, while you are getting farmed in constructed you are excluding a really fun part of the game. What I'm trying to say is you rather play an arena once in a while to keep the game fresh and fun, rather than burn yourself to boredoom while farming gold in constructed with an inneficient deck.

For constructed you can go 2 ways when you are new:

>Dust your way to the deck you feel it will give you fun while playing it and you won't get bored of it for a long time.
>Dust your way to a top farming gold deck that you know it will be used for a really long time and it will get you a lot of gold for playing arena.
.
Either choice you have to be aware of possible patches, for it can totally put your deck out of commission.

Not a question, just something I'd like to note- if you're playing Warlock with Molten Giants and Jaraxxus, play the Giants BEFORE switching if at all possible- otherwise they're realistically unplayable. Made this silly mistake yesterday and lost out on two key cards.

To EVERYONE just starting out, read this series: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=434306

I have no idea why this thread isn't sticked yet, or have a sticked post with important links in it.

Also, I would immediately craft 1 Argent Commander, 1 Defender of Argus, and 1 Azure Drake, in that order. You can use those in just about every deck you make. The reason to make those 3 is that commons are easy to come by and you can very easily get enough Dark Iron Dwarves, Faerie Dragons, etc to fill a deck by opening just a few packs, but getting 2 copies of those cards above will take a long time.

A f2p priest deck is completely viable, and a great way to learn all the various decks out there in constructed. Try a deck like this. This is 27 cards - you have room for 3 others, and I'd go with at least two 2-3 drops (your best available). You may want one additional 5-6 drop (e.g. another Boulderfist). It's up to you.

2x Mind Vision (Not needed - great replacement candidates for other spells)
2x Power Word: Shield
2x Holy Smite
2x Power Word: Pain
2x Power Word: Death
2x Holy Nova
2x Mind Control

2x Northshire Cleric
2x Acidic Swamp Ooze
2x Novice Engineer
2x Shattered Sun Cleric
2x Chillwind Yeti (Replace these, or Shieldmasta, with Dark Iron Dwarves ASAP)
1x Defender of Argus
1x Senjin Shieldmasta (Use 2x of these if you don't have any of the crafted cards)
1x Azure Drake (You can use Gnomish Inventors for now)
1x Argent Commander (This card is AMAZING)
1x Boulderfist Ogre

Right now, regardless of class, 2x Novice Engineer, 2x Shattered Sun Cleric, 2x Dark Iron Dwarves, 1-2x Defender of Argus, 1-2x Azure Drake, and 1-2x Argent Commander, along with 2-4x 1drops (class card or Argent Squire) and 2-6x of the best 2-3drops (class cards, strong 2drop 3/2's like Faerie Dragon, Harvest Golem etc) mixed with class-specific spells/removal is a solid deck that can compete with almost everyone.

I'd be very interested to see this or other similar good free decks to have a sense if I'm in the right direction. Would be great if anyone has a link, couldn't find through google.

No one can tell you how you or anyone should enjoy the game, but you may find it interesting to compare opinions after all. Some people, myself included, find a lot of excitement in fighting as the underdog. Losing sucks, but it makes the feeling of overcoming adversity even more satisfying. "I beat that guy who had a lot of rares with a pure common deck!". But also "I earned all these rare cards by winning gold through Ladder wins and Quests", making them more worth it.

In the mean time you can use the opportunity to learn more about their cards, how their decks work, how yours works, increasing your own decision making process, etc.

Another thing to keep in mind is to not let the "grindy" portions of the game dictate how you play it. Remember that the core of the game is the gameplay itself (outside of the gold and rewards). If you're simply playing to grind and aren't having fun then you should consider playing something else.
Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid!
