I was in Ann Arbor, the second hub in MI next to Detroit. We got a small office downtown (3-4 computers, 6 phones) with shitty internet, plumbing and wasn't air conditioned most of the time but we were constantly packed with volunteers by the end of the summer and we always had donations. We basically had one of those pro gamer snack piles + donated restaurant food and donated gourmet chocolate. you know i think we actually have a decent sized office for the precinct. but i've never been there. everything in my district happened at community centers, churches, people's houses, etc.

i think my wording may sound like i think something bad has happened "you have nothing to be proud of" comes with the connotation of doing something disgraceful or whatever, i obviously dont mean that. i just mean that people who didnt have a direct impact on it have not accomplished anything individually.

Unfortunately, it looks like Prop 8 is going to pass. I guess I can't have every victory (even if it's not in my state). Good night overall, but that still sucks.

So if Prop 8 passes what does that mean?

@Stealth, if Prop 8 passes then California bans gay marriage

Currently gay marriage is legal here in California, if prop 8 passes then that right will be taken away. Not sure if gays who are already married will have their marriage annulled though...(I don't believe that's the case but I'm not completely sure).

You're right, it's definitely not over by any stretch, but on this particular issue, I'm not optimistic. I hope it turns around... we'll see I guess.

that's dangerous thinking that breeds cynicism and causes democracy to not work. if you don't think u can be proud for doing a small part of a larger because not everyone can be helping out supporting a campaign when they have to work at minimum wage to support their family and such. i don't think it degenerates the achievement of the ppl who actually did something, because they couldn't have achieved that without the support of the people who created the conditions for them to achieve it, such as the voters, or the everyday american who makes up america and democracy.

i'm not a republican!
anyway, there has been so much hype for obama, i just don't know how he can live up to it. he's inherited a country with a lot of problems that aren't going to be solved anytime soon.
still nice to have a president with some oratory abilities after 8 terrible years of bush bumbling.

being a small part of something good is something to be proud of, but your average person was essentially not a part at all. together we are strong and all that, but the fact of the matter is if i were a racist it would not have had any impact whatsoever on what happened. i can be proud of being a good person(or at least holding just views on this topic), i cant be proud of something i was irrelevant to.

I love how there is a diagonal line from the proportions between voters for mccain between 18-29 all the way down to 65 and older. It was all about the battle between young'ins vs oldies. The mass of old guys yelling 'you irani kids git affa mah lawn', perched on a rocking chair under a heavily whiskey-scented red and black blanket, must have exclaimed a collective 'dagnabbit, this is just like the last 08 :@', Mccain included lol.

Why can't you be proud by proxy? Plus afaik you still haven't really answered why pride in people's country (ubiquitous in America) is any more valid than pride in people's race?
