First of all, that AFU does put a very considerable effort to preserve Bakhmut, if such units as 1st and 4th National Guard Rapid Reaction brigades are there, since these are kinda elite units (if not by factual training and experience, then by their position, since both are Kiev-based, and 1st having a title "Presidential"). Second, such large number of units clamped in such small area speaks a lot about intensity of the fighting, since units most likely need regular rotations to rest and replenish losses. Third - a lot of infantry formations and not much of armored/mechanized ones, which means that AFU is unlikely to prepare an offensive on this part of the front anytime soon, and are focused on defending the city. There were also rumors of at least 1 AFU artillery brigade being present, which would make sense, since you want a lot of infantry and artillery to defend, and mechanized/armored units - to conduct offensives. And fourth, Ukraine definetly believes that threat to Kiev itself is minimal, otherwise it's unlikely they would send all National Guard (all three NG brigades - 1st, 4th and 25th - are from Kiev) units out of it.

The successful Ukrainian offensive in Kherson Oblast and reaching the Dnipro river has allowed the Ukrainian command to shift a number of units from Kherson Oblast to Donbas. Ukrainian 24th Mechanized Brigade returns to the eastern Ukraine after a brief deployment in Kherson Oblast. It reportedly replaces 93rd Mechanized Brigade, which defended the vicinity of Bakhmut and Soledar for several months. Ukrainian 57th Motorized Brigade moves to the vicinity of Bakhmut. It’s currently unknown which unit has been replaced, but there are some indications that 58th Motorized Brigade might get some rest. Artillery and infantry battalion of 36th Marine Brigade has been relocated from Kherson Oblast to the area of Bakhmut as well. Elements of 28th Mechanized Brigade were seen by Western reporters on the ground in the area of Kostyanytivka, just south-west of Bakhmut. At least one battalion of 46th Airmobile Brigade have been redeployed to the area of Bakhmut. At least a one battalion of 35th Marine Brigade, the 18th Marine Infantry Battalion, has been relocated to the area of Nevelske and Pervomaiske to stabilize the worsening situation in the area." https://militaryland.net/news/ukrainian-reinforcements-heading-to-donbas/

Not exactly video game material even if it's true. https://www.reddit.com/r/unitedkingdom/comments/zl240x/royal_marines_deployed_on_highrisk_covert/ I believe this is the full text from the article. The most interesting excrept: “In January this year, 45 Commando Group deployed at short notice — from the depths of a dark, north Norwegian winter, to evacuate the British embassy in Kyiv to Poland. The go-to 999 international emergency force, if you will,” Magowan wrote. “Then in April, they returned into the country to re-establish the diplomatic mission, providing protection to critical personnel. During both phases, the commandos supported other discreet operations in a hugely sensitive environment and with a high level of political and military risk.”

If a Russians cruse missile hit kyiv while they were there and it hit them that would be a diplomatic incident at best. There are other VIP's that needed to be escorted out and there was that public offer to get zelensky out of the country at the start of the war. If post modern war when you can just die randomly without warning is a cool video game then sure I guess but thats not call of duty material. I don't think that that is specifically post-modern war. That is literally any war, at least for soldiers, though ranges have increased a bit. WW1 your trench can get hit by artillery. Snipers. Napoleonic war your formation gets shredded by artillery. And before that, people died for the stupidest of reasons in war. Barbarossa died due to a heart attack/drowning while bathing. Kambyses II died by stabbing himself while mounting his horse and the wound getting infected. And, of course, always disease. So many soldiers died to random diseases throughout history, with the most well-known example probably being the spanish flu at the end of WW1. But also shit like Malaria or Yellow fever.

Canada will transfer $115 million to repair Kyiv's power grid after repeated Russian attacks against Ukraine's energy infrastructure, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said on Tuesday. The money will come from tariff revenues collected on imports from Russia and Belarus, Freeland said at the Standing with the Ukrainian People conference in Paris. "Putin and his henchmen are war criminals, and they are attempting to use the cold as a weapon to break the spirit of the remarkable people of Ukraine," Freeland said. Source

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal addressed the French government with a request for supplying Leclerc main battle tanks, on top of as many weapons and ammunition as possible. Novosti news agency writes that, apparently, Ukraine decided to switch to France after receiving a refusal from the Germans to supply Leopard 2 tanks, although this looks useless, as the French are unlikely to supply their tanks for the French army does not have enough to cede. Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that Kyiv had not been able to obtain the supply of Leopard 2 tanks from the German government. Even the statements that the United States allegedly approved the transfer of tanks to Ukraine, as reported by the German press, did not help. The Germans are categorically opposed to German tanks fighting in Ukraine, rightly believing that the Americans could supply Kyiv with their M1 Abrams. The Leclerc is a third-generation main battle tank developed and manufactured by Nexter Systems. It was named in honor of Marshal Philippe Leclerc de Hauteclocque, a commander of the Free French Forces, who led the 2nd Armoured Division in World War II (known in French as the 2e DB). The Leclerc is in service with the French Army, Jordanian Army and the United Arab Emirates Army. In production since 1991, the Leclerc entered French service in 1992, replacing the AMX 30B2 as the country's main armored platform. With production now complete, the French Army operates 222 Leclercs (with 184 more in storage for a total of 406), while the United Arab Emirates Army possesses 388. Of the units in French service, 200 will be upgraded to the XLR standard with deliveries expected to begin in 2022. To date, France has delivered 18 CAESAR self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine, and promised to supply 6 more from a batch produced for the Danish Armed Forces. In addition, Paris approved the transfer to Kyiv of six 155 mm TRF1 towed howitzers, which were put into service in 1979. Source
