Russia doesn’t seem to directly benefit but I would have thought they would be much better served bombing other pipelines to force Nordstream into use and lifting of sanctions.

Unless they have more modern forces, which I find hard to believe.

@Simberto & CB If the rumours are true, I'm guessing Putin gave Lukashenko an ultimatum: either we send our troops to Ukraine together or I'm sending my newly mobilised troops into Belarus and take over.

I am not that naive to believe that Putin have no enemy in Russia or no one is want to eye for his position, but Putin will have to be really desperate to do that. Even though I believe there is "easier" solution to potential coup. But I might be missing something. No one knows anything but It seems like the most credible theory. Anyone coupling Putin will be able to use turning the pipe back on as a way to pay off any dissidents or to stabilize the economy. Taking away that option means one less thing any coup attempt could use to gain support. Beacuse I can get that using it as a threat to the norway-poland gas pipe that just went online a week ago, NS1 isn't in use and wouldn't be an active attack to the gas situation, but NS1 was the whole shitck that russia was going to use to blackmail a theoretical Europe that freezes in winter. If Putin was couped and the people who did it offered to reopen the tap in exchange for a ceasefire/withdrawl and a peace conference to decide the issue diplomatically you know Germany would do it in a second.

A complete flooding of seawater is corroding the inner coating too quickly. Most likely the pipelines can't be repaired.

It would be a much more direct attack against the West then anything they have done before. Sure, but you can understand a gamble that with some form of plausible deniability that the west isn’t going to get militarily involved as a response. If Putin desperately needed the money from more gas sales I can imagine it’s a gamble he would take, but I don’t get bombing Nordstream.

We're probably going to see the 300k soldiers march to war sooner than later to make something happens before that.

So what this will consist of is anyone's guess. https://twitter.com/IuliiaMendel/status/1575508099040960514 South Korea low key has been having a thriving defence industry recently. They make a lot of heavy vehicles that compete directly against American products. That the US is funding them like this is a MASSIVE deal.
