Been involved in trying to get 3 failures off the ground (indirectly, hey we know all SC2 players, let’s funnel them), and one new venture that is also doomed to failure. Literally the only entity that survives to even vaguely do anything like that is a university society from my Alma mater, and they do the odd event, not running every day. We just work with them; we have a fun weekend and run an SC2 tourney. John Romero pops up for reasons and annihilates everyone at Doom, good times.
And I’m not joking, John Romero will pop up with his wife from Waterford to Belfast. He will play you at Doom. He will beat you at Doom, and he’ll be a great conversationalist.
We’ve got the biggest fully amateur run nerd convention in all of Europe, all volunteers, all for shits and giggles.
Even with all of that; none of the stuff you’re talking about exist here. There’s not arcades, there’s fuck all. It would be class if there was
Hey it’s cool but I’m not sure why Canada seems to be having such success and somewhere vaguely culturally similar is a fucking wasteland
I think the foundation of these places is a chill sports bar vibe. Have 2 people who are there 70 hours a week. You then start adding in arcade machines one at a time.
My wife has a co-worker whose family runs 1 Barcade. They are planning on opening a 2nd location and when that happens he will quit his full time job. Chances are... At the start he will work more hours for less money.

For the entire 20th century Canada had brilliant leadership allowing it to swim and survive beside the USA shark. Early in the 21st century the #1 province re elected the Premier with the highest popular vote in the province's 150 year history. The city I grew up in had the same mayor for 36 years from 1978 to 2014. She always won every election in a landslide. The Premiere and Mayor were both brilliant. Both were incredibly popular because they were great. The city went from 50,000 to 850,000. All the smart, hard-working immigrants knew Mississauga is where you go to grab the bag.
Canada is in slow decline now though. Most of my customers are in New York and Virginia.
Bellular makes a legit attempt to build a profitable video game news site that is not an advertisement for giant video game corporations. I fundamentally disagree with some of his perspectives, however, I hope he succeeds.
Here is an interesting piece of work from Bellular News.

Ubisoft has made several apologies over the last 4 months regarding their new Assassin's Creed Shadows game. It is a game set in Japan. 2 days before the Tokyo Game Show Ubisoft cancels their appearance.
Ubisoft announced Assassin's Creed Shadows is delayed until February 14, 2025. I suspect Ubisoft's top people did not want their rank and file employees answering questions about how the 1945 Nuclear Holocaust fits into their 'creative re imagining' of 1526 feudal Japan
Ubisoft lost 17% of what was left of its value so far today. Ubisoft is down to EU9.40. Recently, BMO Investing gave Ubisoft an "Outperform" Rating. If I give anyone 2 guesses as to which city on planet earth where the HQ of BMO Investing is... I bet they can get it right.

EULAs and ToS have been deceptive for years now. Even the zero government anarcho-capitalists back this move. The video game industry is pretty scummy. This shows you how scummy the industry is when such a change must be legislated. The industry refused to be honest voluntarily despite constant outcry.

These mega corps are constantly droning on about widening their consumer base to justify their $100+M investments. Well, Barcades have solved the problem.
So much simple, stupid, dumb fun.
Round 1 and a couple other independent arcades are the truth yes. US arcade culture never left, you could see it as MAGfest. The fighting game community still emobides arcade culture, for better or worse.
Most of the barcade stuff is just nostaligia bait, mobile games jammed into a cabinet, or pinball (like the only worthwhile thing in 95% of barcades). Its a good alterntive to traditional watering holes, you can get together with a couple of friends and whittle the time away quietly with food and drinks without the typical dive, bar, or nightclub atmosphere.

welp, it looks like the majority of "chuds" do not think the $400M is legit.
It doesn't matter if his community think its legit or not, at the end of the day all of this stuff about Concord is just content to continue the grave dancing on a game that people immediately latched as a 'go woke, go broke' target. Like Square Enix had two similarly huge online game failures just within the last couple of years without the continued grave dancing, there's nothing new to online games that swing big that fail right out of the gate.
Asmon is a weather vane and rather than just playing MMOs, he's spending more and more time 'reacting' to his subreddit. Which are basically all chuds these days. To the point the mods there have to tone some of the shit down by suppressing incel bait video content in the subreddit so he doesn't react to it. Yeah, he's had good takes occasionally in the past but you cannot tell me his subreddit, even after being moderated, isn't complete trash that wouldn't get you blasted by the mods on this forum within a few minutes.

Do you listen to Asmongold's analysis of "go woke go broke" cases? Usually the product is weak and uninspired and the weak team sprinkles in stuff like a lesbian black disabled character who is trying to find her long lost lover to prop up the game. In other words "going woke" is an EFFECT and it is not a CAUSE. The CAUSE is weak, unoriginal story tellers and poor game designers looking for any cheap/easy hook they can find to prop up their game. To quote Eric Cartman: "put a chick in it and make her lame and gay".
So for example, Fire Pro Wrestling World licensed with NJPW was a very strong product. Suda51, a great game designer, was on the project. The combat is great and Spike-Chunsoft knows it is great. They marched out an excellent roster of male japanese wrestlers. Hardly any white or black wrestlers. No Hulk Hogan, No Stone Cold, No Rock. They did include Kenny Omega however keep in mind he speaks fluent Japanese. Makes total sense.. we're talking NJPW here. Ubisoft, OTOH, has a weak game with all manner of bugs and glitches and their studios are cranking out bad games for years. The combat looks bad. They make the first AC game set in Japan with zero japanese male sarumai. uhh what?
Spike Chunsoft was in a strong position with Suda51 making yet another great wrestling game. Ubisoft has been making garbage for years now and Ubisoft-Quebec only exists due to massive government subisidies. No surprise to see Ubisoft went "woke" and looked for a cheap/easy hook/gimmick with their Japanese game.
Ironically, the non-woke company was very respectful of Japan and the "woke" company turns the 1945 Nuclear Holocaust into a light hearted point of humour.
Had Spike-Chunsoft made an NJPW licensed game with 0 Japanese male wrestlers and filled it with black and white guys it would've been laughed out of existence in NA. The reason NA wrestling fans want the game is to play Japanese wrestlers in the Japanese wrestling style in the NJPW setting. For Assassin's Creed, it seems that many people want to play as a Japanese male Samurai in a game set in feudal Japan. So, people are pissed. meh. Ubisoft are morons and Ubisoft finger pointing at their own customers is ever more moronic.
We have another "get woke go broke" case where the cause is a weak game made by a lousy development team propped up by a mountain of government funding.

Haven't listened to any major reviewer for many years now. Hard to say which ones arent being given free trips and being brided anymore.
Wish that trend dies out and sellout reviewers also die out as well. I just end up relying on the post release playerbase for reviews nowadays

Which is generally a good choice. I have completely stopped buying anything within half a year or so of release. The longer i wait, the more information i get and the cheaper the games get.

And the Pile of Shame is big enough as is. And most games suck on Day 1 anyway because server infrastructure and stuff. The first week is more waiting game than anything else until the biggest flaws are patched out and servers are stable.
I found the information warfare, before Star Wars Outlaws released, to be fascinating. Many mainstream outlets praised the game. If they put the endorsement on youtube it got downvoted into oblivion. 1 endorsement got 4K upvotes and 40K downvotes. Many endorsements got crushed.
Paul Tassi labelled 4 replies that said "how much did ubisoft pay you" as "hate". This is just one example of really mild pushback being called "hate".
The Ubisoft CEO makes a standard "rally the troops" type public statement and it is twisted into "The CEO hates his customers".
The bottom line is, video games are not very important; we've got a lot of self-important people on all sides of the discussion trying to tell us how important they are. Relax guys and enjoy the fact you have so much spare time to play games.
Now, if you'll excuse me I must get back to my life and death struggle to get to top of my Diamond League SC2 Division! The fate of the universe is at stake!
The amount of political correctness has been so overwhelming and obvious that it's now picked up in a lot of main stream videogame/entertainment report as well.
On a side note, in Chinese, the word for correct is 正確 and political correct is 政確. The first character basically has the same pronunciation, pretty funny coincidence

Ah yes the political correctness that has someone hunting robots in a post-apocalyptic world not looking like a supermodel, that kind of political correctness

Not sure why this is controversial, Humans like attractive things by nature. What's next? dante is too attractive for demon hunter? nier? bayonetta? And a top removal surgery scar in a high fantasy setting makes sense somehow? It's not even just the body, it's the face model getting changed on purpose as well. a company decide to spend extra effort to make the model less attractive makes sense to you?
