It is peek cynicism to believe that political motivation is only reason accusers come forward. It is the whole concept of “virtue signaling” taken to its logical conclusion. No one really cares about these issues, they just pretend to care for political advantage.

T_D is literally a bot haven and people that believe that drivel. I'm not a fan of "you're just a bot/russian stooge" approach, but it's literally the case with that subreddit.

It's not all bots; there's also the time Nimble America (later funded by Palmer Luckey) was a non-profit dedicated to posting and spreading right wing memes. So uh bots and paid trolls I guess?

And now the Republicans appear to be saying the "witnesses" were coached. Because, you know, the Democrats didn’t confirm another nominee without any problems just last year. Just glad they have cut through the bullshit and started calling the women liars like they wanted to from the start.
|
Short of Kavanaugh cracking in the hearing and confessing Law and Order style, the Republicans will consider his testimony credible and move to vote regardless of what Ford says. Only hope is Collins/Flake/Murkowski grow a backbone and use this farce as an excuse to vote no.

Is it though? Surely just one person could arrange the entire thing pretty easily, maybe with one other person to help contact people etc. I don't think that's the case, but it certainly wouldn't need a huge conspiracy with many potential sources of leaks to be able to organise it. How would you recruit credible victims to come forward without anyone knowing that you’re recruiting victims? Craigslist? Must be female, professional, have known a Supreme Court judicial nominee and be willing to commit perjury.

Looks like Rosenstein might resign today. Or be fired soon. The story from last week seems to have taken hold and moved him over the red line. Of course, anyone who takes over the Meuller investigation will be a justice department vet and not thrilled that Rosenstein attacked the way he was. This is the problem with the plan to fire their way to a someone who will stop the Meuller investigation, everyone below Sessions is a DOJ vet, so it is just going to be series of increasingly pissed off people.
Source
Edit: The Times picked it up, so it sounds like it is legit. But there are conflicting reports, saying Rosenstein is going to force Trump to fire him. Shit is about to get wild.

Yeah yeah. Keep reading down the page :/

Why would Rosenstein resign if he feels he did nothing wrong? Force Trump to fire him. Ofc Trump may do that today since it has the additional benefit of being just about the only story that can overshadow the Kavanaugh debacle (until Thursday that is).

It's hard to say what's going to happen, we're in uncharted waters.

Resigning is the "polite" thing to do. But like farva says, we're in uncharted waters (well, beyond Nixon's Saturday Night Massacre).

P6 I got a the notice of Rosenstein resigning already.
|
Why would Rosenstein resign when he knows that is exactly what Trump wants? There is no other 'safe' way of getting rid of him.

and why the fuck would he be polite? I don't understand

Trump can’t fire him. Sessions has to. Sessions could ask him to resign, but that seems like a bad plan for Sessions. Rosenstien is a career DOJ attorney and is well liked. If Sessions turns on him, half the DOJ would be more pissed than they already are. Plus the DOJ also oversees the FBI.
Edit:Per NPR he is heading to a meeting this morning. Trump is not there.
Double edit: Looks like there might be a third woman reporting sexual assault by Kavanaugh. Happy Monday.
|
If he isnt being fired then I'm not sure this elevates to constitutional crisis level since Mueller would still be in place. Still, to have this about to happen, assuming it does, on top of the Kavanaugh farce makes this a low point in American political history.
|
It is not possible to get any work done right now. It feels like its already been hours since the original somewhat announcement.
|
So I just read an AP report that Rosenstein was actually heading to the white house knowingly he was going to be fired, so there's news reports that he resigned, but then there's reports that he's going to get fired. Either way, if he did actually resign, doesn't that mean the WH can put a body in his place? Having implications on the investigation now?
|
BTW Trump is not at the White House; he's in NYC. Rosenstein is meeting Kelly. That actually makes it more likely he is being fired as opposed to resigning, imo, because we know Trump is surprisingly beta with these sorts of things.
