Either way, if he did actually resign, doesn't that mean the WH can put a body in his place? Having implications on the investigation now? I will be very surprised of Rosenstein resigns. The only way he would do that is if he needs to serve as a witness and thus recuse himself.

The best friend of Ramirez tells Ronan Farrow of Ramirez: “this is a woman I was best friends with. We shared intimate details of our lives. And I was never told this story by her, or by anyone else. Think about that: NBC, The New York Times and The Washington Post all passed on a story that could've made Trump/Kavanugh look bad As a bonus, here is a particularly idiotic comment exchange. That was a sad exchange, but I think this comment encapsulates the mentality of the forum perfectly: + Show Spoiler + That's because T-D is used as a testing ground for 'new ideas' by the GOP due to its enormous right-leaning user base and popularity. They seemingly think they are the most important people in the world. So important in fact that GOP leadership themselves goes there for advice. They completely fail to recognise that in the grand scheme of things they are just a tiny breeding ground for conspiracy theories, false information, circle jerks, bots and trolls. That said, while perspective is certainly something a large portion of Republicans are lacking these days I don't think these guys represent how the regular everyday republican behaves or thinks of any given situation... but that could just be me being naive I guess.

Some outlets picked up that story and reporters who don’t jump the gun did some fact checking. So now we know it’s a meeting. Seems like it was discussed over the weekend but he did not resign, but that caused speculation. Seems like he expects to be fired for not resigning basically.

There is a second meeting with Trump, where he will like not fire Rosenstein because he is chicken shit. The meeting itself is pretty inappropriate by DOJ standards. In general the President stays away from the DOJ to avoid tainting any cases they might be working on. But this is Trump and he doesn't respect tje rule of law, so he is going to break that unspoken rule.

You know what a funny tie-in to Watergate is? As part of the Saturday Night Massacre, the AG and DAG both resigned in protest, then it became the job of the Solicitor General, Robert Bork, to fire Special Counsel Archibald Cox. Robert Bork was the original nominee for the seat Anthony Kennedy got, but he got voted down by the Senate for his role in Watergate (allegedly, he'd been promised the nomination in exchange for firing Cox). Then he was salty about it and resigned from his spot on the DC Circuit. Also, this is where the term "to bork" comes from.

No need for senate confirmation if Rosenstein was to resign which is why it's particularly concerning that the white house would lie about it
