It's usually always supervised by law enforcement anyway. Im sure no sort of egregious carelessness went on but just some freak accident.

This is California. There are many earthquakes. That's why.

American houses weren't made to withstand impacts from cannons.

THEY SHOT A CANNONBALL INTO SOMEONES HOUSE. Even pointing a gun(or cannon) in a direction where the room behind your target is not cleared, is a huge lapse of judgement. One of the first things you learn in shooting is to look behind your target. I would be furious if this happened to me, but lets just hope mythbusters pays up fast.

Also, American homes (modern ones) are usually made with drywall.that is about 1/2 to 3/4 in. thick (2 cm roughly) sandwiching a wood frame if anyone was curious. Older homes have plaster instead of drywall, which is much more durable.

Yeah but that's not mythbusters fault. It's a police range, they're the ones who should be responsible for that.

If anything this is just good press for them. More people will watch it as it will be thought of as more exciting.

This thread needs more Kari anyways and less arguing about shitty paper mache american mcmansions.

it's not like there were houses right behind the concrete wall, there was a giant dirt mound to absorb any bad shots, the cannonball bouncing in such a way to go that far is indeed a freak accident.

It makes a HUGE world of difference if you've watched the show and how Adam and Jamie talk about having ABSOLUTE trust between each other but, that's not the case for the other three. The moment I heard about the accident I knew it couldn't of been Adam and Jamie because they don't fuck around EVER with something as serious as this. Obviously they'll still be held responsible since those three work for them.
Again Adam and Jamie are just on another level of caution than the other three. I just hope the show doesn't get irrevocably damaged and just glad they dodged a huge bullet with no one getting seriously hurt.

So Mythubsters follows the same safety protocol as a Boy Scout rifle ranged stocked with .22s? A dirt mound would suffice if you were target shooting normal guns but if you're going to launch a giant fuck-off cannonball, why are you anywhere near residential areas?

Woah woah look at all the cannonball experts in here.

Except gun ranges don't take into account cannons, no harm no foul though as long as they don't do it again haha.

Because the Alameda bomb range is one of the few places where they can do this stuff legally.

At least nobody got hurt, more than likely they just were not very experienced with cannons and made a mistake a super mega gargantuan mistake that could have killed people.

Sounds like they used way too much blackpowder or american houses are made out of paper. Yep american houses are made out of paper and wood lol Does this kind of complete stupidityand generalization not annoy anyone else? Lets just randomly insult every American because every derp-tard knows, everything America does is complete trash. What makes it better is that it's someone from Mexico and Portugal(clearly 0.5th world countries) confirming that yes, indeed, America sucks at buildings too. To answer your question, yes, every single American home is made out of paper mache and cardboard. If you're lucky you might get some wood fragments glued together in your wall, and the 1% actually use the occasional nail and screw throughout the house. Sometimes birds and other things come crashing through several walls, so I have to go buy some printer paper and use some chewing gum to stick it back up over the hole. When a breeze over 20 mph comes, I have to evacuate and go to my back yard bomb shelter I have in case of nuclear war with Iran. I just hope my V16 4x4 Ford Truck doesn't get scratched by any flying debris, I can barely afford the gas since it uses about 3 gallons per mile, so I won't be able to repaint it if it does. GO MERCA!! USA!! USA!!! Fortunately I live in a brick home, so I must be, like, one of the richest people in the US? I think I'm the president sometimes. Back to the subject at hand, how does this happen if you have any kind of real safety controls at all? I know Mythbusters usually goes out of their way(seemingly) to make sure everything is safe, so i wonder what they overlooked with something so ridiculous as shooting stuff out of a cannon. I would think that would be a MAJOR undertaking as far as keeping everything safe, not just pointing it at a few garbage cans and a concrete wall and hoping for the best.
Eh.. Just ignore it, you get used to seeing snide comments like that a lot. Honestly who cares? It's no secret that American homes aren't built with incredibly durable materials. You probably live in a house 5x bigger than theirs anyways gogo USA!

I love the show, but that is really scary. "It's just a cannon ball, they go like 100 feet, right? So aim it towards people? Kk brb."
