it's more like how could they miss a row of trashcans filled with water hit through a concrete wall and through another house and the god damn canonball did still not stop.
Sounds like they used way too much blackpowder or american houses are made out of paper.

Yep american houses are made out of paper and wood lol
Does this kind of complete stupidityand generalization not annoy anyone else? Lets just randomly insult every American because every derp-tard knows, everything America does is complete trash. What makes it better is that it's someone from Mexico and Portugal(clearly 0.5th world countries) confirming that yes, indeed, America sucks at buildings too.
To answer your question, yes, every single American home is made out of paper mache and cardboard. If you're lucky you might get some wood fragments glued together in your wall, and the 1% actually use the occasional nail and screw throughout the house. Sometimes birds and other things come crashing through several walls, so I have to go buy some printer paper and use some chewing gum to stick it back up over the hole. When a breeze over 20 mph comes, I have to evacuate and go to my back yard bomb shelter I have in case of nuclear war with Iran. I just hope my V16 4x4 Ford Truck doesn't get scratched by any flying debris, I can barely afford the gas since it uses about 3 gallons per mile, so I won't be able to repaint it if it does. GO MERCA!! USA!! USA!!!
Fortunately I live in a brick home, so I must be, like, one of the richest people in the US? I think I'm the president sometimes.
Back to the subject at hand, how does this happen if you have any kind of real safety controls at all? I know Mythbusters usually goes out of their way(seemingly) to make sure everything is safe, so i wonder what they overlooked with something so ridiculous as shooting stuff out of a cannon. I would think that would be a MAJOR undertaking as far as keeping everything safe, not just pointing it at a few garbage cans and a concrete wall and hoping for the best.
Eh.. Just ignore it, you get used to seeing snide comments like that a lot. Honestly who cares? It's no secret that American homes aren't built with incredibly durable materials. You probably live in a house 5x bigger than theirs anyways gogo USA!
Why the whole rant? The fact that American houses tend to be prefab wood is a generalization? I'm mighty sure that there are brick american houses, they are in very few number compared to wooden houses though.
Hmm. Let me see... in addition to the stringent requirements their insurance companies force them to follow, this particular incident was also supervised by trained EOD law enforcement technicians (JD - you've seen him on the show before), no doubt with EMTs and the fire department on quick response standby (again, insurance companies have no concept of "fun" when it comes to statistical chances of potential fatality), a hoard of checks, double checks, and safety checks on their safety checks (yeah, Tori, Grant, and Kari LOOK like they're more fancy and care free... it's called editing), they set up in one of the few places where shooting off a cannon at an object may be legal in the state of CA, and if you look at an aerial view of the Alameda County Bomb Range (where they have in the past detonated microwaves, fuel/air mixtures of non-dairy creamer and sawdust, water heater "rockets", grenades, etc) one of the few places where there is a significant earthen berm (not unlike what you would find in, for example, a medieval castle's outer defenses) as a backstop to the concrete backstop in front of the targets, they actually were taking quite reasonable precautions. The cannon was not in any way aimed at the houses - any reasonable individual would expect the cannon ball to have been stopped by the various safety measures in place. That said, probability plays no favorites, and a cannonball in motion will tend to stay in motion... lots of motion. Gladly no one was injured, and I'm certain the insurance will pay all damages. Unfortunately, Kari isn't pregnant so they can't use the "pregnant lady" defense that meant they only got banned from that one town back when they were doing "Knock your socks off" in the quarry. The crew and Alameda EOD team may have to re-frame what types of experiments are allowed in their facility - but I don't see this as stopping their show.
Hell, there are people that do this without all the safety precautions except for "No way man, it can't possibly go that far..." that don't wind up in jail. (Sometimes they do.) Things happen - this cannon ball took an amazing bounce (it traveled quite a distance just to get from the bomb range into the neighborhood) they probably couldn't replicate if they tried.
Also, yes... if you are dissing the construction of houses in subdivisions... It's a house. Built to code to withstand earthquakes, help slow down fires, and stand up to some wind. Building codes do not require being able to withstand a cannon shot. Or even gunshots. Remember, these cannon were used to shoot through the solid wooden walls of a ship several inches thick, could pass completely through a ship's mast the size of a telephone pole, and were designed to blast down thick walls of masonry. 2x4 studs placed every 16" sandwiched by siding and plywood on one side, with drywall and maybe some insulation on the other side, just ain't gonna cut it. Maybe if they had kevlar sheathing over the plywood, but that's expensive and very rarely used.
Ninja Edit: Also, I did not win a ladder match last night using a cannon rush when this happened. I swear.
this reminds me of when the three inadvertently launched a remote controlled car doing like 70 mph over the edge of a parking lot, not knowing what was down the hill on the other side. oops!

Depends on the area honestly. Most of the areas I've lived in have been predominantly brick, some stone.
While I was there, stories were circulating of the US army missing the shooting range, and hitting a kindergarden, albeit on the weekend, but I can't find anything about that right now.
About the houses - you can't generalize about the United States. The US is so big that depending on what the dangers are of natural disasters they build houses out of different material. In California you aren't allowed to build residential homes entirely out of brick as I understand it (because of earthquakes).
Back on topic - so ridiculous that this cannon ball was able to go through so much lmao. I would think it would stop in the house somewhere...
So it went through a concrete wall, through a house, bounced several times and still managed to bash a car... Kind of makes you respect 17th centure soldiers even more . I still don't quite understand how it went so wrong, they've done many experiments where you had to be better prepared :/
