Also what it means to be an artist is nothing, everyone is and has been an artist, being an artist isn't hard, it takes almost no effort, I'm already an artist, Id wager every living person in this thread is an artist because when they were kids they drew pictures with crayons of god knows what (I knew I was drawing Dragonball Z), the important part is if you're a good artist, and since I work in the commercial sector of art its not really that hard to determine what makes a good artist: technical skill (anatomy, perspective), program knowledge (Photoshop, Zbrush, etc.), and then the weirder X-factor of design which can really be compared to research.
Also fuck working a day job, if I have to live my life with 3D art being my hobby I'm firmly of the opinion that thats not a life I'd consider worth living, if my end goal isnt a full time 3D job then I might as well throw myself down a canyon, 'cause my life would pretty much be miserable. If you would rather kill yourself than do a super specific type of 3D art, I would hate to see what happens to you should trends, styles, or budgets shift. I am of the opinion that the goal in life is being part of the world, and on your free time you allow yourself to be selfish to do what you wish--be it art, hobbies, or nothing. Whether I live or die does not depend on whether or not I was born in an economy, technological age, or location that allows me to do a super specific thing that I happen to enjoy.
Short answer? I work jobs I dont like and I drink.
And my goal in life is certainly not to be a part of this world, I love art and video games specifically because I get to create and indulge in the meticulous and imaginative worlds that AREN'T this world.

That's, really sad to be honest.
My life is in this world. My wife, my friends, my family. New experiences, old experiences, nature, technology, innovation--and most importantly it has other story tellers. Other people whose experiences are different and distinct from my own, other experiences I get to live in proxy through communication and friendship.
To believe one's own artistic mind is bigger than the minds of humanity as a whole is... its sad to be honest. I'm sorry about that.
EDIT: I didn't mean for this post to sound malicious. We just have very different ideas on Art and Imagination's role on the human condition. It seems you use it to escape reality, and I have always seen it as a way to look and think about reality differently. Like, when I think about King Arthur pulling out the sword from the stone to become king, I don't think of swords or stones or kings, instead I see a metaphor that makes me think that even if you are the only person destined to become something, you can't become that thing unless you yourself reach out and pull your destiny from the metaphoric stone.
Using art and imagination to segment yourself out of the world at large just seems, so self depricating. You're free to experience things how you like, it's just shocking is all.

If humanity was confronted by an alien species all but certain to eliminate the species but for some reason they have chosen you to be their breeder to incorporate human DNA into their species (you would find them unbelievably attractive btw), would you turn on the human race making it easier for them to eliminate them in exchange for absolute certainty you would survive and join them on their interstellar travels?
The other choice is to die with humanity trying to defeat what would be 99.9999% odds humanity would lose.

So, hypothetically speaking, should i start worrying and acquire a fallout shelter with lots of stored food in it?

I expect majority of humans would pick being the last survivor more often than they would pick being extinct. However, I would be less certain of this should the odds of humanity losing decrease. The real question is--how high a certainty would you need to make that decision?
Like, 100% extinction vs Alien Sex will be alien sex every time. Possibly even 99% extinction. But when will t become worth hoping? 98%? 97%? 67%?
There comes a point where your responsibility to the species is more important than your faith in the species succeeding. I don't know what that dividing line is.

Would it truly be an alien species if you can sexually reproduce with them? Would their personality be unbelievably attractive too?

Anime is perhaps *almost* the right word for it.

We could simplify it so that the plot of his question becomes less of a focus from the question itself.
Would you choose to have your spouse die, or both of you die?
Would you choose to have your family die, or you and your family die?
Would you choose to have all the people you know die, or for you and all the people you know die?
Would you choose to have everyone else on the planet die, or would you rather everyone including you die?
|
I don't think I want alien sex, or being used as a literal sex slave. For TM's question, I think I draw the line at the planet. Even if everyone I know dies, there are still other people. No other people though, and there's no hope of any communication ever.

No snu snu for you you?
I don't know I'm that fond of humanity and wouldn't' be doing the universe a service, or on the other hand, perhaps being the willing breeder (you were selected for a very specific set of genes unique to you) could be the only way to preserve some aspect of humanity.
Would it matter if you were more of a compatriot than a slave?

Gotta negociate with those aliens, I'm sure they have some leftists that could be convinced to let a portion of humanity survive. Then I'm down.
|
Genetically speaking, is the .000001% of humanity winning the fight greater or less than a single human being able to rekindle humanity as a species?
|
Also I like the fact that an alien species able to come to earth need sex with us to do anything. Being a general lab rat would be the more likely result.

And even if it is breeding, it is probably not sex. Imagine more what a bull does. You get to fuck some semen milking machine, and then your sperm gets packaged and distributed to lots of different cows.
But that is not actually the point. I think that this question by GreenHorizons is very much not a hypothetical.
I think that actual aliens have contacted GH and told him they are gonna murder everyone, and ask him if he wants to be their semen machine. Probably due to his superior sperm.
The question is thus: How do the rest of us react to this revelation?
