Heath Ledger's Joker, from the Dark Knight. Very over-the-top but the thing that really intrigued me about him, aside from Ledger's awesome portrayal, is that he really seems truly INSANE in this iteration. Joker has always seemed to be a gimmicky theme-based villain in all the other media I've seen (never read any of the comics, only movies and the animated show), but he seems to really be off his rocker in this movie. A very refreshing villain, not motivated by money, power, or ideology, but instead by bat-shit crazy thoughts. pretty nifty.

Sephiroth, from FF7, for similar reasons (though he is much more cliche than Joker). He thinks Jenova is his mother (she isn't), he thinks he is a Cetra (he isn't), he thinks it's his right as a Cetra to inherit the planet and protect the promised land (it isn't) and he thinks the best way to accomplish this is to harm the planet itself (Wtf?) with the most powerful black magic spell in this story universe, Meteor. He f-in' nuts. And an epic BAMF. Seriously, as far as hardcore FF fans go, many prefer Kefka as the superior villain because of his mentality and success ( I agree he's even more insane than Seph by far), but he doesn't have Seph's cool factor. Down with this clown, Seph wins!

Not only the best character the Star Wars universe has produced by far, but a VERY strong candidate for best video game character of all time. I would love to hear anybody argue otherwise. Alucard is by far the greatest villian ever created in any media.

He is immortal, nearly invincible and despite fighting on the side of good, he is pure evil. To nearly kill him 3,424,867 people had to die so that Schrodinger could poison him and negate his existance, whereupon he killed them all again to bring himself back. And upon the end of the manga he reveals the only soul he didnt kill was Schrodinger, so he is now fully immortal and invulnerable.

The reason why I enjoyed the Iron Man movie so much. Jeff Bridges is quite intimidating, powerful, and just bad ass.

So totally awesome. One of the most suave villains ever. I would post my all time favorite, Hans Landa (Inglorious Basterds) but I think he is on page 3.

Edit: Props to Spike and Dark Willow. Alyson Hannigan is so awesome.
