 .... they are a great defends force: 3 times held off mongolian (while they were conquering the entire asia), multiple wins vs chinese through out the entire history + win vs French and US modern war (and yes, they won that shit, not US LOL).... The reason they were so deadly was because instead of having archers train to be horsemen, they trained expert horsemen to shoot while mounted. While they weren't as accurate as an archer on their own two feet, they were able to crank out an incredible amount of shots per minute, while being somewhat accurate in a general area (usually there was a group of soldiers they could just fire into). Combine that with an incredible mobility that can carry you all around the battlefield and you have a deadly combination. It's also worth noting that contrary to traditional horsemen, these mounted archers didn't have to engage in close-quarters combat, rendering spear men rather ineffective against them. One of my favorite historical "warriors" are the Chinese troops that used the Chinese repeating crossbow, the Chu No Ku. Basically in an era where people had longbows, etc, the Chinese used a machine gun.
