Thread is about the various issues surrounding Japan in the aftermath of the recent earthquake. Don't bring the shit side of the internet to the thread, and post with the realization that this thread is very important, and very real, to your fellow members.
Do not post speculative and unconfirmed news you saw on TV or anywhere else. Generally the more dramatic it sounds the less likely it's true. |

This town in Miyagi prefecture is just gone, incredible devastation, all buildings except hospital are gone, highway in pieces., ppl missing This is Minamisanriku, a port town of about 17,000 with 10,000 currently unaccounted for. Really tragic There's a number of before/after images from along the coast in this video, including Minamisanriku first
Thank you for posting this. The before/after images are absolutely horrifying.

This is really horrible and I feel depressed that such a big disaster happened to Japan, which is a really cool country. Is this really the beginning of the end of the world, which is "predicted" to happen in 2012?

Seems there's a problem with that. Fukushima is classed 4, Three miles island 5 and Tchernobyl 7.
It seems it's less serious than the two of them, but I'm waiting for a confirmation since they didn't say that...

An earthquake in japan wasnt anything out of the ordinary..this was expected to happen for a long time, hence pre-emptive measures are taken in about the infrastructure etc

New turbine to cool off the plant in Fukushima Dai1 landed at Fukushima Airport from Mie Pref made by Toshiba

The worst case scenario with a nuclear power plant meltdown is that they lose the reactor (about 100 billion dollars) and some radiation leaks out, but with no casualties. It's seriously bad news, but nothing like what the media is saying.

I studied it, and it was classed 5 ! I've just read the IAEA article about it. It's classed 5.

It was reported as 3 on Reuters and Fukushima as 4. Sorry.

No problem. That the nuclear agency is making an error like that isn't that reassuring, in fact. :x

Why temp ban? PM me why. He doesn't derail more than the other 10% of posters in this thread that doesn't get banned.
Edit: I now know why he was temp banned, and I can agree to it.

Fear mongering of mass media is sinking into idiots. Finnish newspapers are reporting that pharmacies in several cities have sold out their stocks of iodine tablets.

It's completely useless and somewhere else he said "if you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem" which is so stupid it deserves a ban even out of context. Let alone posting it in this thread.
There's stupid people in the US and they say insensitive things. Big deal, let them be degenerates.

Considering the German news services, Spiegel Online is the biggest private internet news service, tagesschau.de the more than solid German national and international public news service backed by obligatory broadcasting charges.
They've apparently adjusted their information policy and don't come to any early conclusions, since probably the authorities in Japan don't even have perfect information about the cores and furthermore they want to prevent any panic.
If you prefer more final German news, the FAZ (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung - faz.net) is an internationally renowned newspaper known for its solidity. They don't update their news every minute or publish much speculation.
