Thread is about the various issues surrounding Japan in the aftermath of the recent earthquake. Don't bring the shit side of the internet to the thread, and post with the realization that this thread is very important, and very real, to your fellow members.
Do not post speculative and unconfirmed news you saw on TV or anywhere else. Generally the more dramatic it sounds the less likely it's true. |

Depending on where the epicenter of the earthquake is, 7.0 is huge regardless on which country you live. Saying that 7.0 is not a big deal is disrespectful to countries affected by those earthquakes.

Ok so you all have actually been in a 7.0 or bigger earthquake and because of your experience, you can tell me that is a big deal right? Obviously its going to be huge if it happens in a country who is not prepared for it, but in places like Japan its really not that big, 7.5 is when the things get messy. EDIT: Richter doenst measure how "big of a deal" an earthquake was, it measures how much energy was released.

Duration and depth are also important taking into account the ~severity factor~ too, and probably some other things as well.
That said I hope Japan is okay and hasn't sustained too much/any damage from this, not a particularly nice way to start the new year off.

Why the hell are you comparing earth-quake sizes like it's some sort of penis showing competition? Seriously it doesn't matter how big it is. They're dangerous, and have killed people, all the way down in the 5's.

I feel so sad for Japan

Well guess what: ~'u ded'~ "Haha thanks for the worry. Yeah it did. i'm starting to get used to these now tbh". Nothing serious, thankfully. Thank you internetz

the 9.0 earthquake was preceded by several smaller "harmless" quakes. I wouldn't stop worrying just yet although there is nothing anyone can do really.

Speaking from my own experience of quakes... 7 feels fricken huge. It is big, and it is scary. Japan is built to largely withstand them with the minimum of damage and risk to human life, but it's not something you sit through playing patience.
Sucky way to start the new year. Omedetto Nippon, ganbarimashita.
