also, if you are going to visit a new country, what about knowing about the culture of their people before? yet, why not learn a little bit of their language before hand? i dont mean you have to learn all the fucking grammar or shit, just the basic conversation that every language learning course teachs. You know, english isnt all that you have to know.

I personally believe I can take them all on myself. Keep dropping tips like that and maybe you can buy acceptance for foreigners.

Most foreigners are not accustomed to local methods of reaching a common understanding. The lack of common understand can lead to some level of uneasiness or distrust. There is nothing a law can do about this uneasiness or distrust. People, foreign and native, have to learn how to deal with each other and establish trust. It come from steadily increasing efforts from both sides to interact with each other. A law against racism might force them to speed up this process but has some severe negative side effects. First of all, it removes some of the incentives for foreigners to achieve an understanding with the natives - any negative reaction to foreign culture would be "racism." Second of all, it pushes the two groups together before the two sides are ready for each other, and that risks developing misunderstanding that would take much longer to repair. All in all, the law should stay out of what is largely a social problem.

During the Korean war our country formed close ties with the U.S. and other aid workers... Yes, it is true that non white foreigners are treated worse than white foreigners, but is America any better? In fact, is any country in the world any better in this aspect? (read gladwell's Blink. Black people are associated with negativeness due to the unfair history they have faced which paints them as a race with negative connotations). From the convos I have with my friends whenever we see a foreigner, my friends always seem to be at awe, and are more curious more than anything. They never say shitty derogatory stuff like "Look at that n*gg*r" or "Hey, you foreigner. Me first in line. Me korean". Fine, my friends and I prob don't represent the Korean population, but hey, there are always retarded racists everywhere. If you see TV in Korea, nowadays there are a ton of news encouraging foreigners from poor countries (mostly from south-east asian countries, where many women come to marry korean men) to learn Korean properly and be more fully integrated to our society. People like Hines Ward the football player help constantly promote anti-racism in korea. Honestly, from the several countries I've lived in, Korea is one of the less racist countries (fine, me being korean by race may have blinded me, but I maintain my point). I believe the U.S. is worse than Korea in terms of racism. Look up the centuries it took for America to wipe out racist laws... speaking of which, KOREA HAS NO RACIST LAWS. That's why we didn't have any anti-racist laws... cause it was never a major social issue. /rant there were no racist laws because there was probably no other sizable visually-perceptible ethic minorities in korea. I think rekrul and other people are also focusing strongly on the way that white people are treated, which around the world is usually quite positive. For non-white people though I think these countries can be quite racist.
